Access to tools for virtual classes
Access to tools or platforms to virtual classes is a problem or dilemma today. Due to the problem we are facing with COVID-19, being able to continue our daily life educational has become complicated, since access to these has been problematic, complicated and to some extent impossible.
Therefore, it is necessary to understand this matter on a large scale. Access is cataloged as the action of reaching a place or in the same way the place where a site is entered or reaches virtually. Digital platforms should be online solutions that allow the execution of various tasks in the same place through the Internet, unfortunately this has not been totally beneficial for the student body. There has been a lot of interference to be able to have a completely productive semester and a lot of learning, the most recent example was the emigration of the emails of the teachers where no teacher could send emails to the students because the platform did not allow them and ifHe achieved the students received it by spam where most did not notice that they had received the message.
At the same time it arises that both in Puerto Rico and in other countries poverty is something that looks on a large scale and for such a certain population has had larger difficulties, due to the economic lack, since they have not had the opportunity to buy orObtain an electronic equipment with which the classes could be connected and in the same way the opportunity to pay a monthly internet (WiFi). Virtual classes have certain negative and equally positive aspects. Unfortunately even though the positive are more, the negatives feel more due to current problems. Among the negatives are:
The change in technology is very fast and many teachers and students fail to follow that rhythm and in the same way the factor that many do not know the techniques or how to use technology and certain platforms.
As already mentioned, the cost of implementing electronic elements, for free access to different platforms.
The motivation that one could have when they are face -to -face is not the same, that the one we have with this new modality, since, from experience I know that we find it difficult to get up early and more if you know that all you have to do is turn on thecell phone and enter the virtual class (we get up as 5 minutes before or until at the same time of the class), very different from when it was face -to -face that we had to get up early because otherwise we did not reach the class.
The social relations that are traditionally established, are limited or even almost extinct
On the other hand are the positive ones:
- It exceeds the limitations of time and space, since there should be no excuse of reaching the class or why I arrive late unless it is because of a medical appointment, personal situation or problems with the connection, but outside this there should be no excuse ofbecause he did not access the class or because he was late. In addition, having a broader and more quiet study space without interruptions (there are exceptions).
- Despite the problems we can have with little technological knowledge, the fact that virtual classes are mandatory, due to the current situation, develop a wide computational knowledge.
- Given the adversity we must seek solutions, to obtain a full possible learning and with this comes creativity, looking for additional learning methods.
- Although some people, who previously did not have certain electronic equipment or tools for this new modality, you can take travel savings as a positive one above all.
- We can adapt our needs based on needs, that arise or have.
- It does not need displacement by the teacher or students to access education.
We can improve our self-taught performance
It allows us access to education from anywhere, so it provides better access and more equality. There have been cases of students who are taking the class from their work, also from their cars because they had to leave emergency, etc.
As in the traditional or face -to -face sphere, the teacher is always available, even more than when it is face -to -face because it is the case that outside class one writes about any doubt and answers him.
In general terms we must see the good of things and given the adversities to continue with what we have. Adapt to this new educational method and make the most of it as far as possible.
