The use and consumption of psychoactive substances

It is of historical notion that all those natural substances that include chemical elements, which alter the human organism in the psychic field, as well as those that help for medicinal uses, have always been associated with certain cultures.

The definition given by the World Health Organization about drugs is as follows: it is any substance that, introduced into the body by any way of administration, causes an alteration, in some way, of the natural functioning of the individual’s central nervous systemAnd it is also likely to create dependence, whether physical psychological or both. (Somedo, 2015)

The use and consumption of psychoactive substances are in the center of the national and international debate.

The fight against drugs and their consumption are intensified in our day, and there are good reasons for this. However, with the light of the media focus constantly focused on this war, it seems as if the most common drugs had recently been discovered, the reality is that many of these drugs such as cannabis, coca, psilocibes, etc. They had already been discovered millennia years ago.

We also understand that in traditional societies, hallucinogens were a means through which, through initiatory or ritual practices, the individual was re -infected cyclically in the chain of generations. (Agusti, 2013)

In the continent of America, the consumption of coca as a stimulant dates back to 5000 to.C. The coca plant occurred wildly until in the 10th century it began to be cultivated by the Indians of Colombia that spread it south. In the Inca culture it was consumed as a sacred plant in rituals. In addition as intense stimulating the coca leaf was crushed and chewed by workers to mitigate the effects derived from altitude, hunger or fatigue and as medicinal use. Coca was not exported to other places until the Spaniards arrived in the 16th century and were surprised by their effects. (Mazzotti, 1973)

For its part, cannabis was native to Asia Central. Thanks to archaeological records we can know that cannabis was already used as a source of textile fibers in 4000 to.C. Its hallucinogenic properties were probably discovered for the first time in the East, since some Chinese writings 3 ago 3 ago.000 years indicated that hemp taken in excess makes monsters see and that if used a long time he can communicate with the spirits and lighten the body. Currently cannabis is one of the most consumed drugs worldwide both in the form of marijuana, hashish and hashish oil. (Knok, 2006)

Also known simply as design drugs, synthesis or herbal drugs. They are psychoactive substances (drugs)

There are several hundreds of drugs of this type. Among them are included:

  • sedatives
  • stimulants
  • hallucinogens

Aphrodisiacs

Many of these are herbal, that is, they come from a plant. Others are synthetic, it means that they are made by man from chemical substances. Many are a mixture of herbal and synthetic products.

Generally these drugs are psychoactive substances, which means that they alter how you think, you feel and behave. Its effect on mental health is unpredictable and there is a high risk of addiction. (Sanz, 2005)

Today there are drug varieties either legal such as coffee, tea, tail, tobacco, alcohol and illegal such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin, LSD, etc. These substances are currently affecting the health of the human being due to certain drugs afflict the organism and even tends to have a psychiatric disorder. (Sagñay, 2012)

Each society has the stimulants and drugs that it deserves, which needs and is able to assimilate.

“Through the drug, the person may see. That is when delusions come for substance consumption ". (Ambrossi, 2010)

We can draw as a conclusion that the different stimulants appeared, developing and assimilated in various historical periods. Despite the age of their presence, our societies continue to maintain psychotropic products in a kind of exteriority. And it is scary of seeing the figures how they are increasing every year, as young people are induced by this path that does not lead to anything good. For this we as health promoters must encourage control and prevention programs for the use and consumption of psychotropic substances.
