Racism as hatred and discrimination in Peru

Introduction

When we talk about racism we know that it is a type of discrimination that arises because of the hatred originated between people who have different qualities, not only is due to the tone of the skin but also, for example, the language or place of birth. This is bad for various aspects, such as that they harm harmony among citizens, since by discriminating a person they would be violating their rights; This also causes emotional pain in people, and make them feel belittled and excluded.

In Peru it has a great ethnic diversity, the bad thing is that instead of taking advantage of this aspect and thus continue to progress, this characteristic is condemning us that among the citizens we discriminate. Today there are not many complaints of racism cases compared to other countries, however, these are increasing as the days go by the days. The most common forms in which it manifests in racism in Peru are: skin color, socioeconomic level, place of birth, by communities and culture.

This essay seeks to raise awareness in Peruvian citizens, in order to create a culture of peace based on respect and equality. It will be mentioned how this is affecting Peru, the measures that the authorities are taking in order to reach a possible solution for a good coexistence in society, we will also see where it is that racism can be seen much more in our country andAs this is influencing the new generations.

Developing

“The action of excluding, despising or treating as inferior to a person, or group of people, based on their belonging to a social group, due to race, sex, religion, economic condition, social class, political position, clothing, clothing, sexual orientation, activity, health condition, disability, place of origin or residence, age, language or of any other nature, which has as the objective or effect to reduce its opportunities or annul or impair the recognition of their rights ”(people,2007).

Example work opportunities, today in Peru, most companies seek in people is more than the amount of knowledge that it can possess. In the streets who has not seen a poster that says “you need an employee with a good presence”, I wonder daily, is the appearance more important than the capacity?;This would be a clear example of what I’m talking about.

The same goes for the television programs of our country, most people who leave these programs are selected by an alleged beautiful physical appearance, Peruvian television are all the time imposing a racist beauty stereotype, the interesting thing is that someof those who leave on television do not even become Peruvians; There we see how the stereotype is reproducing that the white is better. So far according to what I have seen, no one has dared to change those roles, and thus end these stereotypes.

“In all these places discrimination is described from the modality of differentiated treatment;Abuse is a modality that occurs mainly in health services, in work centers and at home, among family members;and marginalization and damage in interaction with public services (especially in Cusco Rural) and when applying for jobs ”(Valdivia, 2009).

Racism is a worldwide phenomenon and Peru has not escaped from it, moreover, we remain a racist and discriminating country, although this is changing, I think there is a long way to go. Several actions have already been implemented to reduce racism in cities, but none of these is being very effective, during the year 2009 the municipalities of our country and 3 regional governments decided to present ordinances against discrimination. "We must cultivate values in our society and thus be able to avoid the suffering of others for our bad acts" (Noriega, 2015), Peruvians still do not realize that there are inequalities, according to the Peruvian Ministry of Culture 53 %Citizens believe we are very racist, but only 8% assume that it is racist. As a virus that clings to us racism is latent and sometimes in some phrases we escape hurtful words such as Cholo, Serrano, etc. There are many cases of people who go on television insulting people, being racist and these are seen by hundreds of people who think that this is totally normal, and subsequently imitate them.

The best way to eradicate discrimination is for citizens themselves to become aware, and at the same time create groups against racism, as well as there are groups against corruption and other problems facing our country. With this we will get racist people to reconsider their actions, are informed, aware and recognize that we all have the same rights. In Peru there are 3 means of protection for the constitutional racism;the administrative (which sanctions the public servant, the education sector, the work sector and the consumer market in case incur discriminatory acts);and the penalty.

Initial education is one of the most important points where we have to try to inform children what discrimination means and with that we will change their way of thinking of the little ones so that they know that we are all equal and that judging peopleIt’s very bad. The places where we find discrimination are health services, educational institutions, in jobs, on the street, the police and municipalities.

In my stage as a student, in 1 and 2 high school, I can remember how discrimination was present among my classmates, one of the reasons why it was most discriminated was because of the obesity that some boys presented compared to others, IPersonally also in some cases becomes racist and excluding some for being different, however today with the mental maturity that I have I realize that discriminating is something very absurd, since before the eyes of God we are all equal.

According to Rocío Muñoz, director of the General Directorate of Interculturality of the Ministry of Culture, "you have to work hard with citizens to finally denounce and not be afraid, and do not enter this dilemma that this is normal";This is totally true, there are hundreds of people who suffer racist insults and who fear denouncing these acts of cruelty; But why is this happens?, This happens because the person who suffers from these insults, ends with the confidence and security destroyed, because this teaches us not to love ourselves and makes us feel that we are inferior to others just because they are different. There are already means in which we can denounce this type of discrimination, application, among others.

Racism is also present in sports, such as Peruvian football, in which there are cases in which players with African -American traits suffer from racist insults and also aggressions;Currently, rules have also been implemented in this sport to avoid racism, since winning a football match or a championship is no more important than respecting others, among these punishments they can arrive from stopping the game, until they play without a fan until they lose points.

conclusion

To conclude with my rehearsal of racism in Peru, based on what we have seen we can mention that there are many things in which Peruvians have to improve, starting by stop excluding and belittling based on unjustified stereotypes, today notThere are many countries with ethnic diversity here in Latin America, so that is why Peru must continue working at this point in favor, in order to promote cultural diversity in a positive way. I only have to ask that Peruvian citizens become aware of their behavior and that they realize that racism is a problem that is present in our country and that it is increasingly creating more disunity and altering peace among people among people. I also think that we should create more groups against discrimination that are responsible for informing all possible people to know that this is a bad thing; One of the areas in which one begins to be racist without realizing is in childhood, so that is why education and the values we give to children will influence their behavior in the future. We know that the solution to end this problem will not come alone, it depends on people to break that barrier of past generations, so that future generations live in a society without discrimination, with the same rights and opportunities regardless of their characteristicsPhysical.
