New York seemed ready to legalize marijuana in 2020
Introduction
Tell legal marijuana in New York among the victims of COVID-19, together with the hundreds of millions in dollars of taxes and thousands of jobs that legalization could have generated. Governor Andrew Cuomo said the last day of March that the legislative spring session of the State had ended effectively after several state legislators positive for the coronavirus. Cuomo himself promised to make legalization a priority during his speech on the state of the State in January. And although there is still some opposition in the state and a similar effort failed in 2019, the people of New York expressed their support for the Cuomo Plan. In Januar, and, a Siena College survey of voters registered in New York found that 58% supported the legalization.
Meanwhile, a less scientific Newshouse survey of more than 250 university students in New York found that more than 91% favored legalization. Newshouse also contacted New York state legislators in March. Of the 20 who responded, five were against legalization, one undecided and 14 were in favor, it makes no sense to me that cannabis and alcohol are treated differently according to law when cannabis presents less health risksThat alcohol is less addictive and there is no empirical evidence that suggests that marijuana is a ‘entry drug’ to other types of drug use, said state senator Jen Metzger, a Rosendale Democrat, Ulster County.
Conclusions
With so much support, what went wrong? The culprit seems to be the same thing that turns life everywhere: the Covid-19 pandemic. State Senator Luis Sepúlveda, a democrat for Bronx, has been a firm defender of legalization. However, he acknowledged that COVID-19 made an adequate political discussion impossible for legalization for now.
Eventually, he thinks that marijuana will be legal for recreational use of adults in New York. The coronavirus may have slowed that effort, but it has also done it safer than ever, he said. Finally, when the storm calms down, we will have to deal with it in one way or another, said Sepúlveda. We are going to approve some type of legalization, and you know what, when you consider the incredible deficits that we will have as a result of the crown, all the sources of income will have to be considered … including gambling, games of random online and things ofThat nature added.
