Beginnings of tragedy in ancient Greece
The tragedy has its beginnings in ancient Greece. This is a theatrical representation in which the characters are faced with mysterious forces. As the great problems of man was staged, whether fate, freedom, love and much more. This representation was given by noble, heroes or half -men. A painful situation was raised that only surpassed by misfortunes such as death and horror. Originally the tragedy was the "Canto del Male Cabrío". The tragedy had objectives which were provoking spectators fear and compassion. He was inspired by the myths and sacred representations and his argument is the fall of an important character. The main authors of the tragedy are: Esquilo, Sophocles and Euripides. The father of the tragedy is Esquilo who is called "Father of the Theater", since he respected the choirs and had a lyrical character. On the other hand, the father of the Greek tragedy was Euripides along with Sophocles and Esquilo. In short, these three main authors of the tragedy, which obtained great popularity over the years, were the most important playwrights.
Knowing the origin and some characteristics of the tragedy we can talk about the most famous tragedy that today continues to talk about and this was Hamlet. This tragedy was written by William Shakespeare. This tour between two axes which are: revenge and doubt. Here is where we understand where the anger or resentment of Hamlet begins. Everything begins when his father, King Hamlet;King of Denmark, he was killed and his son knew that it had happened, since his ghost had told him what happened and he was full of anger and wanted to avenge his father’s death. On the other hand, when his father died, his mother had married Claudio, brother of the king of Denmark;Hamlet uncle. Putting Claudio as the new king of Denmark. Hamlet carries an internal struggle which should be his destiny: not to act in the face of injustice and feel a coward or fight for his convictions staining his hands. Although Hamlet has seen his father and he has asked for revenge this does not know what to do.
The tragedy of Sophocles about Oedipus is the tragedy of a man who tries to know his destiny, but is a victim of himself. Oedipus was abandoned and found by a shepherd who had no children and he threw it as if it were. When the years passed Oedipus learned that this was not his true father which went in search of his origin. When he was in search of answers he did not get anything and back he meets a man who did not give way and with whom he ends with a confrontation and kills him. This man was Layo, king of Thebes and who he didn’t know was his true father. Oedipus faces a monster that frightens the people of Thebes and expires him by having as a prize the hand of the widow queen, Yocasta, who over time and after having children finds out what is her true mother. As much as he wants to know his life, he wrapped in the two crimes he made, the murder of his father and the incest he committed with his mother. Anyway, Oedipus and Hamlet have a great similarity which is that both were full of misfortunes which were not going to let them escape their destiny and that both destinations were already written or expected and there was not how to change them. Hamlet’s father asked for justice, but he was full of rage that what he did was harm. As for example when I kill the father of Ofelia, his great love, believing that he was Claudio. And having done this made his love, Ofelia, he drown.
In conclusion, in the Hamlet work there is an unusual characteristic of any traditional tragedy that can be found, since it has no choirs in the dramatic action that separates the episodes. When leaving the classic tragedy, it stands out for being a single complete episode that is divided into scenes that relate the work in a complete way. Although it does not have an important sign of the traditional tragedy, such as choirs, it remains a tragedy, since the deaths of much of the protagonists of the work occur, concluding with a final abrupt in full tragedy that is reflected in deathTotal of all characters. Characteristics of this tragedy are: passion, anger, catharsis and hamartίa.
