The usefulness of chemistry in human health

The human being, since his appearance has always been involved in looking for the reason for things, so he has been considered to undertake a constant search for what he did not know, looking for the answers to all his doubts. All this starts from the need that people have to seek the comfort of people, to improve in a way of life, to process their well -being and that of the family

The increasingly demanding current society that encourages constant changes to ensure this well -being, has promoted research in all fields especially in technological development and health. In the latter, it has been investigating without number of aspects focused especially on the cure of the diseases that already existed and some new ones that appear as time progresses. In this type of research related to health, the application of chemistry is essential, because through the formulas, combinations, it has allowed to create substances that not only apply directly to the body, but also retain others and then be used.

Chemistry in the field of medicine has been one of the greatest achievements that the human being has achieved to preserve the lives of people, both the maintenance of their organism in the sense of disease prevention and the cure of the same.Chemistry is a science highly valued by its usefulness

Medicine and health prevention

Chemistry helps prevent health problems through the development of preventive medicines such as vaccines and health products. Medicines and vaccines have eradicated virtually great pathologies such as polyomelitis, smallpox or tuberculosis.

On the other hand, antiseptics and antibiotics help- among other things- to save the life of mothers in births, having descended mortality, in industrial countries, of 300 mothers every 100.000 birth, less than 20 today. (Fedequim, 2018)

Pharmaceutical products and chemistry

Pharmaceutical products are chemical agents used therapeutically to treat diseases. Currently medicines are used for both prevention and treatment for diseases or their consequences. Another important application of medicines today is to maintain health and relieve pain during disease (Ministry of Environment Ecuador, 2013)

In the development of pharmaceutical products, chemical kinetics intervene, which is responsible for the study of the speed of a chemical reaction and also studies the design of equipment, control and product processing.(Polloqueri, Quehpe, Vargas, & Álvarez, 2014).

To this day, the manufacture of pharmaceutical products implies the use of organic molecules that require several chemical steps and strong energy use. This product also generates abundant amounts of harmful waste for the environment (and usually toxic).

Within certain pharmaceutical products are the so -called neighborhood diamines, which contain chemical links, a bioactive base for medicine (MPG, 2017)

Chemists and chemical engineers with their hard work have helped the evolution of modern medicine through the development of novel pharmaceutical products, the creation of new medical equipment and refining the diagnostic processes. (Diaz, 2018).

Chemistry today

Currently, chemistry benefits our lives in the following aspects:

  • Human health: medicine, diagnostic materials, contact lenses, prostheses.
  • Veterinary: substances to take care of the health of our cattle and pets.
  • Agriculture: crop protection (pesticides, herbicides, insecticides), fertilizers, fertilizers, micronutrients, analysis of the chemical composition of the soil.
  • Food: water purification, food additives, analysis methods that control the quality and safety of food.
  • Energy: Applications in transport, heating, cooling, portable gadgets to produce energy (Herradon, 2016)

From the appearance of chemistry as a science that has given rise to the discovery of numerous medicines that start from chemical combinations.

Health is one of the fields where chemistry has given its best contribution, as it has contributed to saving lives, both with the products developed to cure diseases, as well as with the products that serve as prevention such as vaccines
