The woman and the meaning of the Chicano Movement

The issue of which we are going to talk about is about the woman and what the Chicano movement for them meant. Everyone knows Cesar Chávez, the American peasant leader and activist who was in favor of civil rights for illegal peasants (Barrera, 2018). Dolores Huerta was the woman who formed the United Farmer World Association, and did so to give the NATIONAL VOICE MOVE. Huerta was also the Chicana woman who was next to Cesar Chávez fighting for the peasants and Mexico Americans. The Chicano movement was a struggle that happened for civil rights and the search for social justice and equality for all American Chicans or Mexican. Although Mexican men and women fight for an identity and by rights of being treated with respect or equality the struggle reached important changes. The Chicano movement was not only personal but also a way to fight for other rights such as education, discrimination, racism, and exploitation. The Chicano movement gave strength to students, peasants, minorities, men and women Chicanas to fight for their rights. In the identity struggle and place in the world of literature. There were also women like Judithe Hernández, who was an activist in the Chicano Movement and who defends the female cause with his art, Alma García, Chicana Feminist and teacher who looked in favor of education about Chicana and Gloria Anzaldua literature, author, poet andActivist, who released his experiences as a lesbian, chicana, indigenous, and feminist woman (Barrera, 2018). This is how we can show that Chicana literature is a sample of the achievement that the Chicano and feminism movement had. You also have to talk about other women who had achievements and great importance with Chicana literature. And authors, poets and writers such as Chrisx, Erlinda Gonzales-Berry, Gloria Velásquez, and Raquel Valle feel that with Chicana feminism and literature they gave advance in education and recognition to women. We are going to focus on women’s achievements during the Chicano movement, feminism and literature.

Feminism

Chicano feminism was a socio -political movement that was based in the United States with the objective of a constant analysis of the history, cultural, spiritual, economic and educational that the woman of Mexico concerns. Still very common in calling them or referring to them as a Chicana that originated from the Chicano movement. Feminism was also announced or grabbed strength during and after the Chicano movement. One of the reasons that was so controversial was because the same men of the Chicano movement did not see the Chicana woman just like a man. Chicanas women were oppressed and seen as less than men (I am Chicana: Chicana Feminist Movement). Feminism was a part of the liberation of Chicanas women but it was not only for Chicana but for women in general. The first Chicanas feminist of the movement managed to hear and include their fair demands in the national agendas (Pulido, 1970). Maybe one of the things that symbolizes feminism is always fighting for women and their rights to everything. But if we have to name a few things that feminism achieves the right of women to decide what to do with their body especially abortion. They also gave the voice to women to fight for the right to work and win the same as men, have professional careers, being artists, being writers and I believe the most important points for Chicano feminism was the equality and identity of Chicanas women(Pulido, 1970). Although many consider that Chicano feminism was only one way that the Chicanian woman and women attract attention between politics and society never imagined that she grabbed as much force as she did (I am Chicana: Chicana Feminist Movement). So in the next paragraphs they are present as the Chicana woman has been overcome and as the achievements of the Chicana woman between the Chicano movement has helped the Chicana woman with their identity, equality and in literature.

The Chicano Movement

Although the Chicano movement was a struggle to advocate for the equality of the Chicana, Mexico American community and women and women was not exactly like that. Although they know we recognize that the Chicano movement opened a door for Chicanos and Mexican Americans in the United States; But he also opened the doors in other countries such as Mexico and Central America (Pulido, 1970). According to activists such as Gloria Velásquez and Cherrie Moraga, women also fought in the Chicano Movement. They wrote, passed brochures, made calls by phone to raise funds to continue with the fight in the movement. They also speak as they did, cooked and sold food for men, students, race and to join money to help men continue with the fight or cause as the activists called him. So let’s know these achievements of Chicanas and fighters women in feminism movement. His concerns have changed over time since the beginning of the Chicano movement. The initial concerns and objectives of the movement were to fight for their political freedom and advocate for the oppression that people face in the colonial period (Pulido, 1970). The Chicana Movement was established to protect women’s rights within the Mexico American community. However, their attempts to resist separation were reduced by facing the resistance of Chicano male activists. For this reason, Chicanian movements focused only on protecting the needs of ethnic women. The Chicana feminist movement has taken very different roles with the objective of redefining its meaning from the moment it began. It has focused on overtime to address sexist, classified and racist paradigms. The movement has been involved in the claim process and the recovery of the identities of Chicanas women and their experiences (I am Chicana: Chicana Feminist Movement).

Dolores Huerta

As we talked at the beginning of the Chicano movement there was a woman who gave her voice and caught the attention for rights and who were Chicanos and Chicanas in the country and part of the movement. She is Dolores Huerta, one of the activists who has made her life defend the human rights of Mexico (Barrera, 2018). Huerta also lucho and joined with Cesar e. Chávez to advocate for the labor rights of the peasantry. She has also insisted on the complaint of the triple inequality that women are facing through gender, race and class in the United States (Barrera, 2018). During this and many other struggles Huerta realized that being a woman made the weak point for multiple discrimination but the worst was from the part of her companions. In an interview that Huerta gave, she says ‘at some point I felt very frustrated, sad. Machismo hurts a lot because a person we know, a relative, a friend or the people with whom you work: machismo is blind when it comes to respect for women.’(Barrera, 2018). I think that moments of reflection between women know that we have to fight for what just, and also to give us respect. Huerta gave his opinion about women and the feminist struggle, and says ‘I think that every woman has to recognize that we are the only one that we can fight for ourselves. Each woman has to put her support system for themselves, we cannot expect others to do it for us ’(Barrera, 2018). So with these words we are going to talk about what the Chicana woman has achieved thanks to women like Dolores Huerta. Because we can talk about all the achievements of Huerta but we are going to talk about Chicana literature since Huerta has behaved her grain of sand by Chicanian women who could overcome their oppressions.

One of the things that caught the attention was the discovery of the power of women with emphasis on art and literature. Now there are also women like Judithe Hernández, who is also an activist and artist who also struggles for Latin movement and feminist movement (Celenia, 2016). But let’s talk about some works of literature that gave voice and hope to the Chicana woman. It is said that Chicanian women’s literature was not easy; They were more than mounted expressions of the woman who occurred as literature because Chicanas women had to fight for their identity and equality in the Chicano movement (Ramírez and Axel, 1970). They should remember that the characteristics of Chican literature are written in English and Spanish, and in Chicana literature you can find poems, novels, stories and even plays. Chicana literature focused and criticized society and touches the issue of movement. Some of the issues that represent in Chicana literature are identity problems, discrimination, culture and experiences that Chicanos or Mexicana American live in the United States. In relation to Chicana literature we can also see that he speaks of experiences with migration, the two languages, and how and when they crossed the border and announce their experiences that they lived by crossing for the United States (Pulido, 1970).

Anzaldua Gloria

To be able to talk about the achievements of Chicanian literature how not to mention Gloria Anzaldua; She was a feminist poet, poet and activist. She was one of the women who looked for the Chicana and feminist cause. In interviews made by Gloria Anzaldua, she professes that she identifies as a Chicana, lesbian and feminist. Although many of her works talk about her experience, feelings, and experiences that she lived for being Mexican, American, and bilingual (Thoughtco, 2019). We can realize that in his works they are associated with Chicano feminism. And also like other Chicanian authors she also writes about the oppression that women lived, the roles restricted to the other gender and sexual violence against women of color (Romero, 2019). They are recommended to read Bodelands /La Frontera: The New Mestiz. Unfortunately Anzaldua died in 2004, she left a legacy with her works, for Chicanian, indigenous, lesbian women, every woman who has felt the oppression of any kind and more important to her dedication to Chicana literature.

Chicana Literature

Much of Chicana literature is based on true things that have happened to women. The history of the Chicana woman consists of struggles and minimum achievements until recently. According to the article feminism on the border, talk about how women are seen and says’ women have been confined to few spaces, as well as mistreated in various societies, this being the case of Latin America where women have been treated for yearsWith discrimination and pigeons in a purely housewife position with all the tasks that this implies, procreator and protector of the children among others, and the weak sex are considered (pink is painted from change, 1970). It can be said that years have passed for women to see in something progressive for women and overcome being lower or in cases as useless for the simple fact that they are women. Women were ensen to obey every male man and who should never against the direction of a man. In the seventies formally began one of many feminist movements in the United States where the Chicanas pointed out.

Like many groups, there are still ways to improve rights in the life of Chicana women. But at the same time they have achieved so much. The Chicana woman has a voice in society and specifically in the literature. But seeing literature like the Chrisx and its poem the crazy one of the cosmic race with the first lines that say ‘I am the Chicana woman, a wonder, I am as simple as the capirotada and at The Same Time I am as complicated to understand a The AztecPyramids. I am the Queen of the Cosmic Race (Caliphath style) ‘(Rebolledo and Rivero, 1993). In these lines the author is giving identity, and explains how she is simple and complicated but deserves respect because she is a woman. Well we can also talk about Raquel Valle Sente and his poem I am as I am and what;and introduces us to women with two identities and also in the search for acceptance of both countries in Mexico and the United States. In the poem of Valle you feel when he says "I am like a puppet pulled by the threads of two cultures that collide with each other" is clear in the fight looking. These achievements are made clear to the woman who wrote them but also to the Chicano movement and the feminism movement but these achievements also bear fruit of hope and also the evolution of women and generations to come in literature.

conclusion

In conclusion, ‘the concept of Chicana feminism incorporates intersectionality;the act of claiming its gender and race / ethnicity / culture simultaneously, without placing an identity on the other. Identifying as a Chicana means more than just identifying with Mexican culture, it is also a political position that implies a political and social awareness of existing inequalities ’(What is Chicana Feminist?). The Chicano Movement and the Feminist Movement have made the Chicana woman have an identity between cultures and roots. But the most important thing has given a voice to the woman and the future of the women who come. Chicana literature written by women has not only been able to transcend in the world of men, but also managed to inspire women of all kinds, world, cultures and origins. Although the Chicano movement went to give voice and vote to Chicanos or Mexico American also to improve education, identity, justice, rights and be a voice not a group if not all groups fighting for the same causes.
