The tragedy that the human being commits

Introduction

It is a dilemma developed by Garret Hardin in 1968, which explains the over-exploitation of limited resources, where several individuals who act independently, responding to their own interests, without considering the damage of others, end up exhausting a limited resource, when it is shared, achieving in the end end that resource and with yourself.

Developing

It deals with the problems of allocation of resources, so we think that we have the right to what surrounds us, not being aware that we must know how to manage natural resources for a common and better future benefit. Part from the point where individuals seek to maximize their benefit individually for which they constantly use certain natural resources until they are exhausted, without thinking about the consequences or others, much less in the environment. So what were the consequences of long -term overpopulation?

The tragedy of the commons focuses on the fact that the number of resources we have will not reach for the existing population, since the population grows exponentially and everyone thinks of itself and rarely in others, that is, we have resources that we have resources thatWe use in common to our benefit without thinking that future generations will also need them.

Hardin uses as an example the use of the soil that the peasants give, each one has a cow, being able to say that each one has 1/10 of land however the problem begins when one of them has the idea of increasing their benefit carrying another cow,Obtaining 2/11 of land, which forces others to wear one more cow, since their pastures will be greater, when each one already has two cows in the pasture, they realize that the grass did not grow again,Since the wear of the soil is greater, its cows die, all this because of making decisions and only thinking in the short term.

Hardin raises two solutions, dividing the area into 10 pieces of private property, in which each one is responsible for their area giving or not a reasonable use of the earth or paying someone who manages the entire terrain, having this the power to tell themhow much cattle can put on the ground to avoid the soon wear of the terrain. Thus.

conclusion

In the long term, each person will be forced to live with less, since by increasing the population, the resources will have to be divided into more people, because it destroys what is shared in common, temporarily obtaining a benefit, but that in the long termwill damage everyone. It can be seen that for this problem;China has established the policy of having only one child with the aim of establishing a population control.

Another effect that will have this long -term overexploitation will be seen in industrialized countries, since if the population increases the level of pollution increases, making the population affected more the environment. This really shows us that we have to take care of resources, since in the future when we are triple or more exhaust our resources more quickly.
