The oldest republic in Central América, Costa Rica
The Republic of Costa Rica is one of the oldest democracies in Central America. Costa Rica is a country proud of its cultural heritage, social development on military spending and tolerance on hostility. Costa Rica is a country rich in history since it marked the books on September 18, 1502. The country is also the host of many international organizations such as the Inter -American Court of Human Rights, the United Nations University and the Earth Council.
San José, the capital of Costa Rica is together the political and economic center. The city of San José was founded in 1737 with the name of Villa Nueva de la Boca del Monte. What is now known as San José was a small village until the arrival of coffee in 1821 and later tobacco, when it reached some development thanks to the new capital. In 1823 it became the capital of the country but did not reach its maximum splendor until the twentieth century with the development of coffee activity: it was the third city in the world with public lighting, among the first to have public phones, the first in Central America in establishing free and mandatory primary education and the first to allow the assistance of women to school.
In 1502, on his fourth and last trip to the New World, Christopher Columbus was the first European to step on the Costa Rican territory. But however, the colonization of Costa Rica did not start until 1522. Impressed by the exuberance of its vegetation and the abundance of jewelry and gold ornaments dressed in indigenous natives, Columbus baptized this land with the name of Costa Rica. The Spaniards called the country ‘Costa Rica’ because they hoped to find gold and other valuable natural minerals, not finding them, they had to devote themselves to agriculture. For almost three centuries, Spain administered the region as part of the general captaincy of Guatemala through a military governor. In 1821, Costa Rica joined the other Central American provinces in a joint declaration of independence from Spain.
Costa Rica is an organized nation as a unitary presidential republic composed of 7 provinces (San José, Alajuela, Heredia, Carthage, Puntarenas, Limón, Guanacaste and Coco Island (located in the Pacific Ocean)) has a territory with a total area of 51 100 km². Manuel Antonio’s beaches are a natural paradise located south of Quepos on the Pacific coast, it is a lovely combination of rain forest, coral reefs and beaches; It is considered by many as one of the most beautiful destinations in the country.
Costa Rica has made its contributions to world music. His native popular music can still be heard in all peoples throughout the country and is often accompanied by typical or traditional dances. This genre nourishes many different origins to create what we hear today. The natives had been making music in the area for thousands of years and had developed their instruments and scales. When the Spaniards arrived, they brought their musical traditions and introduced several new instruments, while the posterior immigrants from European countries also contributed to the mixture. The final influence that helped develop the sound of Costa Rican music comes from the African population and this affected the particular entry rhythms. Sitting right in the middle of Central America, and encased between foci of musical innovation such as Mexico, Colombia and the Caribbean, it is not necessary to say that the streets of Costa Rica are always full of good music.
Costa Rican food incorporates several basic elements of Latin American cuisine and differs from itself by being much healthier with the inclusion of a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.
