Why use hydraulic fracturing (fracking)?
The first and not least in what we have to think about is the world energy demand, due to this primary reason is that the need to apply this method of hydrocarbon production arises, now perhaps many think of: why not exploitand produce the oil and natural gas deposits through conventional methods?
To a large extent, most oil and natural gas deposits in the world are exploited through conventional techniques, however, wanting to increase hydrocarbons production arises the ideas of exploiting the so -called unconventional deposits, well friends to this point seems to goWell the thing, but more questions arise on this matter, and we could ask ourselves: what are unconventional deposits? This is a question that can be answered in a very clear and precise way, but that will continue to feed the cycle of questions, it is normal that within an investigative process where we are clarifying certain truths, myths and lies, a cluster of questions arise. Now let’s start giving responses, an unconventional deposit is that site that does not have the necessary geological elements to be categorized as a conventional site. That is why I told them that this answer was going to take us to another question, and it is nothing more to ask ourselves: what is a conventional deposit? A conventional deposit can be conceptualized as that geological unit (reservoir rock) that contains hydrocarbon (oil and/or natural gas) in which so that these energy resources can be stored, a series of geological factors such as:
- Mother rock: where hydrocarbon was generated.
- Reservoir Rock: where hydrocarbon is stored.
- Roca Seal: Site with low permeability characteristics (seal) such as lutitas, necessary for oil to stop migrating and be entramp.
- Roca column: necessary to exert sufficient pressure for hydrocarbon to migrate
In conclusion, a conventional deposit is a deposit in which oil can be entailed, which in turn the generation -migration processes -accumulation of hydrocarbon in the reservoir rock that is finally the container deposit of the tradable hydrocarbons. Understood what is a conventional deposit, we can do a restructuring and redefine a concept according to the subject we are dealing with, so we could say that an unconventional deposit is one that has as its main characteristic the absence of any of the necessary geological elements inConventional deposits such as trap, migration and accumulation of hydrocarbon.
