The importance of environmental education in Mexico

In recent years, environmental pollution has been aggravated very quickly, since our species has been contaminating the planet years ago and we are seeing the results today. Many people who are not available to information or do not inform the subject do not know that this problem is affecting us and that if we do not make a change it will become much worse. This problem begins to eradicate from our homes, but just like the new generations on this subject and how to reduce it because it is a problem that will affect us all, but more to young generations.

This problem does not only affect the environment as such, but also to our health and that is why it has to be informed so that the damage to us and the other living beings is less. Most people think that industries are to blame for pollution and in reality it is true, but also as civilians need the basic education to know that garbage should not be thrown into the street, that garbage should be divided, that can be recycled, where to deposit technological waste and many more things. The industries generate a huge amount of garbage and pollution, but we are the ones who consume the products, this does not want to be consumed, but we can find a new form of packaging or organic products that can be replaced by those that already exist and pollute.

Environmental pollution is not only the fault of large companies, as many think, it is the fault of each of us, when we do actions that we know they pollute, but we continue to carry them out. A large part of environmental pollution comes from the waste we leave in our garbage, the large amount of electricity that we use irresponsibly, the uncontrolled use of plastic in our daily lives, among many other examples.

In recent years, pollution has been increasing, worrying scientists who say that the planet can undergo irreversible changes if we do not decrease environmental pollution.

The trees play an important role in this situation, because these, thanks to photosynthesis, absorb part of the CO₂ that is free in the atmosphere and release oxygen, an element that is fundamental to life. On the other hand, their deforestation causes several species to lose their habitat and have to look for another;Unfortunately many of these species fail to adapt and end up extinguishing, which causes a hard blow to biodiversity and puts other species at risk.

The human being is not saved here, because air pollution can cause asthma, bronchitis or pulmony to the risk of lung cancer, it can cause viral diseases such as yellow fever, dengue or hepatitis;Water pollution can cause cholera, typhoid fever, polyomyelitis, meningitis, hepatitis and diarrhea;and noise pollution can cause stress, lack of concentration and insomnia.

To reduce this problem, many people have suggested to change non -renewable energy sources that are in use for renewable energies, since these are more abundant on the planet and regenerate, since it can last hundreds or thousands of years.

According to the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources, the most used renewable energies in Mexico are:

  • Wind energy: which are those that are produced by wind turbines. They are used mainly in the states of Zacatecas, Hidalgo, Veracruz, Sinaloa and the Yucatan Peninsula.
  • PHOTOVOLTAIC: It is captured from the light and heat emitted by the sun. They are mainly located in isolated rural communities from the National Electricity.
  • Hydraulic mini: generates less than 10 MW of little caudalous water or sites where the construction of large facilities is not possible. Mexico has 22 private and 31 public centrals.
  • Oceanic: It is obtained from the wave of the sea, the high and low tide and the temperature difference of the marine waters.
  • Geothermal: it is produced by the heat of the earth that expels for example thermal waters or geysers. In Mexico there are four centrals, in Baja California, in Baja California Sur, in Michoacán, and in Puebla.
  • Biomass: it originates in biologically renewable matter such as wood, cellulose and carbon. It can be obtained from the liquid state of that matter, by the fermentation of sugars, or gaseous, through anaerobic decomposition of organic matter

In recent years, organizations have been created in favor of the care of the environment, one of the most listened. This organization began in the 60s with eight Swiss activists, including Julian Huxley, Peter Scott, Yolanda Farr and Bernardo de Lippe-Biesterfield and currently has more than 5 million members, a worldwide network of 27 national organizations, 5associated and 22 programs offices.
