THE HISTORY OF EQUALITY IN SOCIETY

Equality is defined as a fundamental characteristic within the society in which the same rights, obligations and principles for all its members must prevail. This concept is currently known, thanks to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1498.

HISTORY

Throughout history, different principles have emerged to apply the term equality. One of the most important documents that collected equality formally was the social contract, in which Rousseau intended to show a new model of society where their own interests were eliminated causing a common search for foundations that facilitate community life;especially to allow a better incorporation of the female gender. However, in the 18th century, not everyone accepted this idea of improvement, since different characteristics and obligations were usually maintained between genres, always prevailing the figure of man.

Although in the second half of the twentieth century, some policies were created that facilitated the incorporation of women into the labor market, and that endured until the drafting of the current Constitution of 1978, which contains a proliferation of equality.

Typology and main characteristics

First, we point out the principle of equality in which this concept is treated as a value, for which people must have equal treatment that allows them to enjoy without the violation of the fundamental principles and their own rights occurs. In turn, equality must be promoted for all people to enjoy this right under the same conditions within a society.

On the other hand, it is worth highlighting equality in the law and in its application: "The Spaniards are the same before the law, without discrimination against […]" . Equality must be applied in the same way to the people who are in the same situation, the violation of this principle in the application by judges and courts cannot be produced, if not that these must impart their application in a equitable manner. Equality is applied throughout the Spanish territory, attending to the different articles that the Constitution shows us, and putting all Spanish citizens in similarity from different points of view: political, tax, legal, family ..

Policies and accessibility

Equality policies have been developing small with the aim of improving the situation within society, not only for differences between genders but also to project a more efficient society, without any barrier type as a resultof diseases, races … However, to become a perfect society, many parameters that will be difficult to achieve are still demanded.

In the company, equality policies had the purpose of granting the same treatment for both genres, so that there is a better collaboration in work activity between the two. In this way, there will be a connection of ideas that will make the company obtain better results in the elimination of problems: “[…] Increase the participation of women in the labor market […] enhancing their training level and adaptabilityto labor market requirements."

Accessibility is a concept that has evolved, in which a series of norms and adaptations are developed, to facilitate life to people with disabilities: “[…] public authorities will adopt relevant measures to ensure universal accessibility, in equalConditions with other people, in environments, processes, goods, […] ” .

The intention is to promulgate measures to obtain the same equal treatment in all legal and social areas. Some examples, where we can highlight improvement measures for equality, is the inclusion of language for deaf in television channels such as the other, Telemadrid or the 1dor during the news or important speeches.
