THE FUTURE OF DESIGN
Summary
This work exposes the possible role of the future of design in Mexico, from the perspective of sustainability. Design as a tool that will take strength in the future situations and that will help curb the deterioration of the environment in the current situation and the undoubted growth that it will have.
The design before the panorama of the future, will play an important role. The priorities will change and the designer, by the hand of technological advances will create and generate from other modalities, considering processes and materials that do not cause an impact on the environment.
The design will be a key piece to stop deterioration and improve the quality of life and environment. The future world will increasing.
Introduction
Seeing the future of design in Mexico, faces several issues, from what will happen to the design and technological advances so accelerated?, to the new needs that can arise from the current world that we live from connections and social networks. Although from the perspective of this work we will see it as a tool to stop the average environmental degradation and improve the quality of life, given a future of growth and consumption that is coming.
In recent years, sustainable speeches have abounded in favor of greater awareness about the care of our resources, as well as the planet we inhabit. This places us before an alert to habits and uses carried out by the billions of people who live in it and what these habits and practices will take us in the future if we do not stop this rhythm. Alarming figures raise the urgent need to review the ways in which we produce and consume. We are facing a situation that demands greater awareness and intervention, if this is what the present shows us, the future has a similar and evident destiny.
The design of this scenario will play an important role in the future. Undoubtedly the designer, by the hand of technological advances will create and generate design from other modalities, considering processes and materials that do not generate an impact on the planet. The designer will innate ‘the present needs without compromising the needs of future generations’ (definition of the World Commission on the Environment and Development of the United Nations, 1987). The design will play an important role in the creation of objects, spaces, buildings, etc. thinking about the impact that they could have.
The concept of sustainable development mentioned above was known worldwide from the report: ‘Our common future’, published in 1987 on the occasion of the preparation for the United Nations World Conference on Environment and Development, held in Rio de Janeiro Brazilin 1992. Sustainability includes the following 3 objectives to be met:
- Ecological: Compatibility between human activities and the preservation of biodiversity and ecosystems.
- Economic: generate economic wealth in a local, regional and global framework that stimulates the financially possible and profitable development, maintaining the basis of natural resources and their conservation.
- Social: It is based on the maintenance of the social and cultural network, the ability to maintain common interests by democratic and non -exclusive paths.
With the antecedent of the previous concept, then the sustainable design is that satisfies human needs through functionality and aesthetics, and at the same time respects nature and guarantees resources for coming generations. The design is an action that becomes a continuous cycle of operations that requires adjustments and improvements during its life time, this allows optimizing its performance and effectiveness. Within sustainable design, these characteristics are magnified since similar elements should probably be taken into consideration such as manufacturing materials and processes but with a different approach. The design will see the totality, from the life cycle, obtaining the material to its degradation.
In the future where we will be more and more, the needs will be other. Lifestyles and everyday objects will have to change. The design complemented with new technologies will take an important role, will have the implicit proposal for sustainability.
Developing
As the design has been seen over time, it has not been static, it has been modified according to the availability or emergence of tools, situations or needs, social factors, technological advances, among others. The design adapts to new formats, trends and means. Which leads us to deduce that in the future it will continue with this inertia of adaptation. Maybe then the question would be what does the future hold for us?
The future world will increasing.
We are growing at an accelerated pace, Daniel Calleja, General Director of Environment states that in 2050 we will be 9.000 million people in the world. 80% will live in cities, 50% of which have not yet been built. Waste generation will increase 70% from here to 2025 ′.
Given this scenario and the excessive increase in waste, design plays an important role. It is estimated that more than 80% of all environmental repercussions related to products are determined during the design phase. The decisions made by the designer, from the manufacturing processes to the chosen materials, have an ecological footprint.
With a clear panorama in the face of growth, the adoption of sustainable design will be a viable option for the conservation of our country. In the future, the design will seek to implement sustainable options, creation of products and systems not harmful to the environment, socially and economically viable. It will be the main creator of how the future will develop for your benefit. Vehicles with low energy consumption, alternative energies, smart buildings, new daily object designs with ecological and/or local materials, etc. Although part of what is mentioned we are beginning to see it today as innovation, in the future they will be everyday processes, which will give guideline to the way of life to preserve the environment. The design will be centered and will have an interest on how it will have an economic, environmental and social part.
It will also have an important role when generating proposals for the problems that have been generated and will be latent in the future. Although it should be noted that the design will not be the lifeguard of the world. What is certain is that the demand for an adequate design of the things that make up our environment, is essential for the improvement of our quality of life. And before the future scenario the designer will have a leading role.
The designer will be necessary and of importance to offer society their knowledge and skills for the planet. ‘The design industry will be in a position to give a new look at problems and create design solutions that are creative and necessary at the same time’ ask for
When designing objects, spaces or any element that can be designed, it has an impact on the environment, society and the economy. The design has something to offer to stop the aforementioned. The designer of the future will have as a priority the conservation of the environment, guarantee the well -being and development of citizens, ensure the resources and development of the coming generations. Sustainability will be imposed as the only recipe to counteract the serious crisis.
The future will bring us more growth in cities as well as an unstoppable climate change in Mexico and everyone and we will have to adapt to the new challenges that will have to face them. The main challenge a more conscious world ecologically. Now at the service of new values such as ecology, cooperation, generosity and collective benefit.
It is definitely clear that the future of design is increasing.
Conclusions
The design in the future will have to continue adapting to the new needs as it has done so far over the years, in this case a need that will be latent without hesitation will be the question of stopping environmental deterioration.
We are living in a world of accelerated growth, and of great consumerism which is generating affectations to our environment which will continue in the near future. Currently, ideas of for favor and benefit of our cities and planet Earth are beginning to sprout. That is why in the future before the neighboring overview of excessive growth, the role of design will take relevance. The designer as a generator of concepts, objects and ideas will have a close relationship with sustainability which will be based on the future, undoubtedly.
The design in its different sectors will work focusing on the premise of thinking about the impact it will have on the environment about the situation we will find. Sustainability will be the recipe in the designer’s work to stop deterioration and improve the only planet we have.
Sustainable design will be raised as an alternative that will make us more supportive and responsible with our environment. Designers must know and use their knowledge and skills to improve all stages of the process, involving the impact they could have. The design will lie in the assertive decision making.
Sustainable development will be the solution to the ability of a society to continue working indefinitely without being forced to decline for the exhaustion or overload of the fundamental resources on which it depends. It should be noted that the design will not be the solution in the but a change or adaptation that it will have in the future situations that are on their way. The change is in all of us, the design a great help to lógalo.
