The fusion between ballet and contemporary dance
While, in the origins of modern and contemporary dance, ballet appears as a model to reject or a strange field, in the second half of the twentieth century, classical dance and contemporary dance are in a reciprocal position of interest.

Russell Maliphant: He trained at The Royal Ballet School and graduated from Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet before leaving to follow an independent dance race. He danced with DV8, Michael Clark, Rosemary Butcher and Laurie Booth, with whom he received the Time Out Live award for ‘Raise the improvisation dance to new heights’. Between 1991–1994 Maliphant studied anatomy, physiology and biomechanics, and described as a practitioner of the Rolf Structural Integration Method (or Rolfing) in 1994. These studies report both their teaching and choreograph. Since 1994 he has collaborated closely with the lighting designer Michael Hulls, developing a language where movement and light are intimately connected and the meeting point becomes a new language itself. Russell Maliphant Company formed in 1996 and also worked with renowned companies and artists such as Sylvie Guillem, Robert Lepage, Isaac Julian, Balletboyz and Lyon Opera Ballet. In 2002 he received the Time Out Live award for his excellent collaboration for his work Sheer and in 2003 he received a South Bank Show dance prize for the Choice piece. At the end of that year Broken Fall created for Sylvie Guillem and Balletboyz, which premiered at the Royal Opera House and received an Olivier award for the best production of new dance production.
