The film analysis The Truman show

The film is about the life of a character (Truman) who remains locked in a fictional world and his life is controlled by other people, creating with her a television program watching by thousands of spectators. The creators of the program, with the help of the actors, built a dish simulating a city where they all made him believe that his life was real. When Truman began to philosophize, that is, to ask about things, he tried to flee from that world facing the obstacles they put on him and in the end he got it. After watching the movie I have concluded that life can be interpreted as a path full of obstacles that we have to overcome. To achieve this we must pass a learning process, which can cause us great suffering, as is the case of Truman. The process that is followed to move from ignorance to knowledge is similar to the one that explains planting in (myth of the cavern), in fact, we can say that this film is based on that myth. In the first place, we find Eucrasia, that is, the imagination that is represented in the film when Truman believed that his world was real, then we found the clues or belief, hence that is, intelligence, which is reflected in the film when Truman is climbing the steps that will take him to the real world.

Characters analysis

  1. Truman Burbank: With this name proposed by the director, we deduce that it indicates that for the "Truman", the protagonist is only a source of income for his last name Burbank (Bank: Bank).
  2. Sean Haven: This man for me represents a “shelter” for Truman, that is to say that this city – scenario that this truman is so entertaining for them set with the actors surrounding his life. They try to prevent it from leaving the city simply to continue generating income for them and the director.
  3. Motto: The motto that appears in Seahaven’s entrance arch is "Omnis Pro Uno" that means "all for one" which means "all for one", referring to everything has been built and is at the service of Truman.
  4. Cristoff: The director and creator of the show is known as Cristoff, this is an abbreviation of Christopher that means "the one who leads to the Messiah (Christ), referring to the fact that he directs and manipulates the life of the hero, as he refers several times to Truman. This is done from the moon, which represents the sensitivity in the human being control of sensations.

The society that surrounds Truman in his daily life, we can analyze the society that is watching the show. This caricaturization of society hooked on the TV is taken to the extreme, but sometimes you can only understand the reality by analyzing the most extreme points. This representation of an dusk and totally dependent on television programs can help us identify several symptoms of a pathology that is spreading in (twenty -first century after Christ) or 21st century. A society hooked on the TV, which follows Truman’s show as if their own lives were linked to the character’s destination Truman. They are people who appear always watching the television screen and who laugh, suffer and cry following Truman. They show us a series of people who live for and for the Truman show. It is the most important thing they do every day, see that television program.

The film gives us several points of view on communication and how far the mass communicators can arrive to make a product that is bought, although for them you have to isolate and manipulate a person throughout their lives. The overcoming of fears, despite having been so afraid of the sea, decides to take the ship and endure the storm, the will woke up inside with the mood of seeing beyond. Being able to observe the passive reaction of the public gives us to think about who puts the limit to the audience.
