The female vote in Latin America

Women’s rights throughout the history of Latin America are slow for the conquering mentality. The Church gave the idea of a strong dominant Christian warrior who has the duty to move away fragile women from sin. This understanding of women leads to the social norms of the colonial period, the laws after the revolution and until today. The political atmosphere is much better for women’s equality. Chile, Argentina, Brazil and Costa Rica elected presidents in the early 2000s.

Feminism in Latin America began with the suffrage movement after World War I. Julia de Burgos, a defender of women’s rights, explained that the idea of femininity is not just becoming a mother. This notion that women began to form organizations to counteract opposition to their work and reproductive rights. These organizations received strong challenges from dictators who say that feminism is a threat to their power.

In some cases, feminist movements exceeded their problems. Argentina had a strong female leader, Eva Duarte, or who later married the Argentine dictator and became known as Evita Perón. She is a controversial person because she used the patriarchal system to give benefits to the degendate. She established the Peronist Women’s Party who acted against the government in many ways. Avita presented an appearance of traditional republican values, but fought for women’s rights. His efforts were in vain after his death and the overthrow of her husband.

Feminism was a socialist movement that endangered conservative establishments. In the 1980s, the groups mobilized to denounce the dictatorships. The groups were headed by women who lost someone for the brutal regimes that dominated Latin America. These groups created global support for their cause and the aid orders from similar countries. The efforts of these movements have given women in Latin America a change in work and fair treatment.

Unfortunately, there is still patriarchal culture, better known as ‘machismo’, which still limits women’s equality. The problem with the conqueror’s mentality is that not only hurts women, but also harms men. Allow women the same rights that men help the nation as a whole. According to Goldman Sachs, including women in the labor force drastically increases the economy of the nation. The women’s suffrage movement helped minority groups to receive rights and ended discriminatory laws that harm men. The health of a nation does not depend only on the male population, but on all people as a whole.
