The famous works, Odyssey and the Iliad

The work we know as the Iliad is very recognized in the literary field worldwide. Created by Homer, he tells a story among gods of mythology and mortals. The reason for writing the Iliad is not clear, but perhaps it was written with the purpose of marking a moment in the history of Greece and its cities. It is believed that Homer is the first poet of ancient Greece, and two of his works, being the most important created by him, the Iliad and the odyssey were taken in ancient Greece as historical stories more than just poems. Because there are not many data about the author, it is not known with certainty if it actually existed, or if he is a legendary and fictional character. It is presumed that he was alive during the seventh century to.C., And that died in the same. His birthplace is not known in ancient Greece, but it is said that he was blind, which made the idea of this mysterious character more interesting. Relatizing events that occurred, such a work formed, although it cannot be taken as true due to the strong influence and connection to the Greek gods and the characters, although in reality the city of Troy existed and was destroyed.

Such majestic work is composed of the amount of 24 songs divided into verses. Each song narrating different events in history and the war of Troy. It is part of the literary genre of epic poetry, being one in which the gods are directly connected or related to their characters. It is categorized under this genre because in this type of literary work the story of some hero is told, in this case of the great warrior Achilles. In it, Greek mythology is present, in which you can see the participation of main deities such as Zeus, god of electricity and king of the gods in Olympus, Apollo, God of logic and “the one who hurts from afar”, Athena, goddess of war and wisdom, etc. It is written in a very cultured vocabulary, at all everyday, which makes reading it is not easy feat. It is a fairly complex work that gives rise during the Mycenaean time, studied in class, between Troy and Sparta.

Different characters, whether warriors, kings or gods, are part of the plot of the Iliad, shaping it and showing the characteristics of ancient Greece. The legendary Achilles, is the main character of the story, since the work revolves around his "anger" or his anger, and the actions he takes throughout his journey in the Trojan War. Causing Achilles anger and rage is King Agamemnon. Héctor, was the son of the king of Troy, Priam, and the best Trojan warrior, who suffers from Achilles. There is also Menelao, the king of Troy and brother of Agamemnon, Helena, Queen of Troy, Paris, Prince of Sparta and the aforementioned gods. Such gods have literary roles, as roles in history per se. Seeing the work from a literary point, the gods have the role of highlighting the epic and show the spiritual and/or religious inclination that the Greeks had in the times of ancient Greece; At the same time showing the human need to justify and explain inexplicable or inopportune events with some God, for example, the plague that was in the camp "was sent" by the god Apollo to "punish" for not returning his daughter to his daughter toCrown priest. But looking at it from the point of view of the story, the gods have the role of complementing the time in which the story takes place, they have the role of fulfilling the mythology and beliefs of the Greeks.

The Iliad forms several stories at the same time, but being the most important, the history of the Trojan War and the legendary warrior known as Achilles. Achilles was the son of the goddess of water, Tetis, and the best warriors in his time. It was known as "Achilles, the light feet" for its speed and speed in combat. He had a dispute with his king, leader of his army, in which the king gave him away from his slave, which had been an award of a battle in which they came out victorious. Such humiliation, led him to the point he denied fighting again for the king and in tears and suffering, cried out his mother, who made a petition. He asked him to go up to Olympus and ask Zeus to victory for Troy in the war, so that his king and leader agamen would obtain defeat, to which Zeus accepted. Later, the Achilles refuse to fight, allows his friend Patroclus. Achilles returns to the fight for his fury and need for revenge, and manages to kill Héctor, who murdered his partner. Finishing the story of the legendary Achilles in the Iliad, Zeus asks him to give Hector’s body to his father, the king of Troy, Priam, request that Achilles respect and fulfill.

In addition, you can see a story of "love", in which the Prince of Sparta, Paris and the Queen of Troy, wife of Menelao, Helena, are wrapped. Aphrodite, being the goddess of beauty and love promised Paris that Helena would be his. This caused him to fall in love with King Menela’s wife, the most beautiful woman, and devised a plan to kidnap her, which carried out and came out victorious. The Trojan King and the search for his wife became one of the main causes of what is now known as the Trojan War. Apart from these two main stories, there are also different others with other characters, such as the battle of Héctor with Ayax, the conflict between the gods, divided into sides by war, Zeus wanting to finish it at one point.

Throughout this epic we can know several things about life in ancient Greece such as the present values, its mythology, its beliefs, and even a little of how power and armies work. Values such as honor, pride, honor, revenge, spirituality, love and hate were well present at the day -to -day life of the Greeks apparently in this poetry. In the main character we can see all these values and beginning of the beginning at the end. The pride was present at every time Achilles refused to fight for his king, despite being the best warrior they had and despite the apologies of Agamemnon and his gifts, there including a bit of honor since he did it withsuch to defend it and not endure the humiliations or egocentrisms of Agamemnon. We can see spirituality in Achilles when he asks the gods to victory for Troy and in the daily relationship with them, the hatred he felt when he was taken from his best friend, and the revenge he decided to take about it in the battle with Héctor. His mythology is well marked and present, and today is one of the most recognized and interesting mythologies for others. Their power positions were totally authoritarian, but they asked for "wise" consultations that worked as their mentors. His society was a patriarchal and is seen in situations such as when they won a battle, they took "award" to women "slaves", for example, Briseida and Criseida.

It is more than clear that wars and conflict have existed since the beginning of humanity, even in times as far as centuries before Christ. Whether to demonstrate, win it, recover honor, defend it, or by receiving glory and wealth or simply for hate and revenge, war has always been the solution of the human being to resolve a conflict or to demonstrate superiority or acquire it. The Trojan War being an example of the aforementioned reasons, one of the causes being the abduction of the wife of the Trojan King, who made the decision to war with whom he had taken it to recover her, and recover her honor. Achilles is a great example of hatred and revenge, because whenever he received some complication or damage, he sought way to return the feeling or return the blow much stronger, such as when Agamemnon stripped him of his slave Briseidto grant the victory of the war to the Trojans, causing defeat to Agamemnon, just to feel pain. There will always be conflict, it is part of the human being and it has always been, when great nations wrap, war occurs, when it is a small group, battles occur, and when they are individual, fights occur. It is a product of egocentrism, pride and/or selfishness of the human being many times, who obviously will always look for the best for himself.

Seeing and analyzing the work of another point, the armies and their warriors in the conflict were only chips of a board game for the gods. The Trojan War narrated in the Iliad was strongly influenced by the gods of Olympus from the beginning and play a very important role in decision -making and the outcome and result of the war. Zeus, for example, was a God who was favoring the two sides, while the goddess Hera hated the Trojan people, therefore, favored the opposite side. It was not a matter of just favoring or not, but they intervened directly into the struggles, as Diomedes that was inspired/trained by the goddess Athena, Aphrodite saving eneas of death being injured, Ares intervening, possessed annoying by the construction of the Opta wallWhy is it destroyed, etc. But of the best examples present, it is the constant manipulation of the god Zeus by sending a warrior who shoot Menelao to break the truce and follow the battle. The war would move and revolve around the desire and decision of the gods.
