In recent years, technological and scientific advances have helped improve people’s quality of life, thus being the generation called millennials, is characterized by being agile entrepreneurs, great allies of technology and maintaining their physical activity inIncrease, this has increased physical activity practices such as: go to gym, do outdoor activities and practice some sport. (Wikipedia, Wikipedia, 2019).

Physical activity are all the movements that people do throughout a day, from going to work, cooking or sports, they help the promotion and prevention of good health. The incorporation of a daily routine that agrees sport induces physical changes in the organism either due to aesthetics or health, this brings benefits such as reducing blood pressure, decreased insulin, increased lung capacity, increased increase inmuscle mass, etc. Inplay. (Wikipedia, Sports, 2019), the practice of physical activity related to some sport, can become an ally for both the body and mind, that mental illness or disorders such as anxiety, stress, depression orAddictions, experts indicate that the experience of swimming is linked to the relaxation of the body with the contact of the water and is remembered as if they were again in the mother’s belly (Arena, 2017).

Swimming is a great ally of depression: according to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression is a frequent mental disorder, which is characterized by the presence of sadness, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or lack ofself – esteem, sleep or appetite disorders, feeling of tiredness and lack of concentration. (Health, 2019), The symptoms of this disorder are: the loss of interest or pleasure for most common activities or all, such as sexual relations, hobbies or sports, sleep alterations, such as insomnia or sleepToo much, fatigue and lack of energy, so even small tasks require a greater effort, lack of appetite and thinning, or more food and weight gain, anxiety, agitation or restlessness, slowness to reason,Speaking and making bodily movements, feelings of uselessness or guilt, fixing in failures of the past or self-refoches, the difficulty in thinking, concentrating, making decisions and remembering things, frequent or recurring thoughts about death, suicidal thoughts, suicidal attempts or suicideAnd finally the inexplicable physical problems, such as back or head pain (Mayoclinic, 2019)

There are different treatments for depression can range from medications, for the increase in serotonin [Footnoteref: 1], psychotherapy, hospital treatment, alternative medicine and connections between body and mind, the techniques of relaxation, meditation and increaseof physical activity practiced by a sport can be useful such as swimming. [1: serotonin is a neurotransmitter closely related to the control of emotions and mood, it is known as the hormone of happiness since when their levels increase in neuronal circuits it generates sensations of well -being, relaxation, satisfaction and increasesconcentration and self – esteem. (Sanitas, 2019)]

Swimming is aerobic exercise since the cardiorespiratory system improves and increases neuronal and cognitive reception, requires maintaining breathing control with physical effort, this leads to the increase in the amount of blood to the heart in each beat, they are releasedEndorphins [Footnoteref: 2], with the practice of this sport implies the concentration in breathing, causing the respiratory system to relax and reducing anxiety and stress (Aquatico, 2018).

It has positive effects on the brain, it provides a stimulation of neurotransmitters that influence mood, memory, cognitive abilities and coordination, in turn, repair cells of any brain damage at the molecular and behavioral level. This causes benefits in neurotransmitters that influence mood and hormones responsible for stress, so the symptoms of depression are considerably relieved. (Grijota, 2016) [2: Endorphins are peptides (small proteins) that bind with the opioid receptors of the central nervous system. An endorphine is a type of neurotransmitter. (US National Cancer Institute.UU, 2019)]

Some high -performance athletes suffered from depression and anxiety, such as the famous American swimmer Michel Phelps, who on one occasion admitted that he suffered from this and took him to the drink, with the demands and fragility he carried in his life, he went intoA rehabilitation center for the theme of alcohol and return to Rio Games triumphing, relying on the sport I knew so much, swimming.

The National Center for Biotechnology Information [Footnoteref: 3], according to the study on the effects of exercise on anxiety, depression and mood by Doctor to Polish, Guszkowska M. [3: The National Center for Biotechnological Information or National Center for Biotechnology Information is part of the United States National Library of Medicine (NCBI, 2019)]

It has been shown that aerobic exercises, such as jogging or swimming, reduce anxiety and depression. It is proposed that these improvements in mood are caused by the increase induced by exercise in blood circulation to the brain and an influence on the hypothalamic-political-adrenal (HPA) axis and, therefore, in physiological reactivityto stress (Guszkowska, 2004)

It is recommended that swimming be practiced for 15 to 30 minutes at least three times a week, that reduces the acute effect of depression and increases mood after exercise (Guszkowska, 2004), according to Dr. David Cooper,Director of Neuropsychological Services and Research for the Sports shock program, clinical psychologist, clinical neuropsychologist and sports psychologist (Medicine, 2019) indicates that swimming elevates the feelings of positivism, since it influences the regeneration of neurons in the part of the brain, activates the increase in memory. The motivation for a depressive person is essential for him to have the mind occupied, avoiding negative thoughts, practicing swimming and learning to relax the mind and body in an adequate way, reduces the effects of depression.
