Song "The White Man" by Pedro Guerra, a critical analysis

Before referring to Pedro Manuel Guerra Mansito, the "White Man", I want to develop the theoretical framework that will support the point of view from which I will analyze the content of that song, since otherwise it will be more difficult to understand my Approach to the subject.

From a general perspective, we can say that the human subject as an individual or as a social being, in any of his facets, must be addressed from a broad, multidisciplinary point of view and with a historical perspective, and is under this look that his manifestations must be conceptualized cultural. These have a content and that content is due to an objective, which is mediated by the experiences of its author and its interpretation.

I am even more approaching the subject, I want to refer to the concept of power as Michel Foucault (2000) plates in his writings, from which it follows, that: power does not stop, it is not possessed, it is not transmitted, it is not inherited, Power is exercised because power is a relationship and every relationship is a power relationship, since power is asymmetric. Where there is inequality, imbalance, asymmetry there will be power and as no relationship is in parity or in total equality, every relationship is a relationship of power. In addition, power does not finally prohibit, on the contrary, it allows certain practices, certain subjectivities, knowledge and pleasures (Foucault, the truth and the legal forms, 2017). That is, the power produces subjects, produces certain practices, enables certain relational forms and therefore the power produces certain truths that support or sustain it, power and truth are united, and the truth is a form of power that usually that in general hides the underlying power relations at the origin or genealogy of any truth discourse or really regimes, that is, the way in which valid or truthful statements occur.

That said, we can say from the point of view of our analysis that reality is subject to interpretation and that it also obeys the dynamics of power.

Within these dynamics, there is the exercise of power, its reproduction and the search for perpetuity, it is here where it consigned by Walter Mignolo (1999, pages. 55-74), it is a description of how power is exercised, for example by conceptualizing the European, such as the Center for Attention, "placed Europe as a place of enunciation and other civilizations as a place of the statement" . First in geographical terms and then in chronological terms, and how power seeks to settle, to perpetuate itself, … "The speech of the civilizing mission had two faces: one for the construction of nations, the other for colonial expansion" and now In terms of development and modernization.

In other words, the current stage of globalization and its emphasis on the market are contributing to the denial of the denial of contemporaneity, a strategic principle of the three previous stages of globalization, under the flags of Christianization (by the Spanish empire), the civilizing mission (by the British Empire and French colonization) and the development/modernization (by American imperialism).

In strict rigor what does what it does is land the invisible – the power – to the sphere of the visible, its effects. I will not try, describe how or why these power asymmetry relations were given, I will only say that their origins could be found in technological differentiation and unity of thought around the religious beliefs of the time.

It is a tragic and violent process because it is understood that this imposition of the European epistemic order is made from the awareness that epistemological colonization is the beginning of science in Africa, America and Asia. Just as it is believed that with Christianity the only true God comes, it is also thought that with Europe the true and unique science arrives.

Following the plot logic, we will also say that power replicates some hegemonic logic, that is, human groups that are in an advantageous asymmetry position are imposed on those who are not. I make this prevention, since it explains the intercultural dynamics, from the intracultural point of view, that is, the lack of cooperation between peoples, which should agree on similar objectives, such as in inclusive development models.

In our opinion, it is the interaction of the aforementioned factors that explains that modern technology has been endorse. The world and humanity would not have any other alternative path. But here it is precisely his violence; The violence of the arrogance of a civilizational model that needs to idolize the quice that has given its world and that consequently cannot tolerate humanity to gravitate the world on other axes or gravitation centers.

At this point, the theoretical framework has been explained, which allows me on that basis to build the analysis that summons us and that refers to the content of the lyrics, of the song the "White Man" of Pedro Guerra.
