Social analysis of the movie "Joker"

The present writing has as its main objective to expose my opinion about the most recent film that everyone is talking about, "Joker" directed by Todd Phillips.

As this movie knows, it has a lot to talk about from the characters, Soundtrack, color palette, references to comics, etc. But in this case I will give my opinion and make a small analysis about this social origin attributed to the villain in this new story.

As a reader, what you will find in this short analysis will be some references to other authors which will help me better understand what I think about the social field of the film, in the same way you have to be clear from now on that at no timeAn absolute truth is said but given the nature of this film we can all have very different opinions of the different events and actions of the main character.

In the same way I hope that the reader is interested in some issues or references that are discussed and that may not know, in this way it is expected to exhort their reading to appeal to a deeper reflection on the topics to be addressed.

The film shows as the main character, the Joker or also called (this time) Arthur Fleck, however, this not on a film focused on a great fight or something similar, but is the "origin" of the acclaimed villain.

I have decided to clarify the character’s name and write origin in quotes since on the one hand we have that this film shows a man ignored by society who is taken to the limit of madness due to the tragedy of his life, his illness, its economic position and its mental vulnerability. Basically we see how many factors impact Arthur so that he becomes the Joker, the film takes the social sphere a lot as a crucial part of its origin and what I consider that it is the most interesting of this character is that this oneHe seeks his salvation through different means despite the fact that these may or may not be correct, I think that in this case the Joker is a somewhat exaggerated representation of what could happen to a person oppressed by real society,The film transforms this reality a bit into a fictional story so that it is more digestible to the public, however, the reflection of our reality is maintained.

On the other hand we have that the origin of this villain is not this in itself but its origin is totally unknown (this is the reason for my clarifications at the beginning of the text), nobody knows the real name of the Joker, much less a fixed origin,Throughout history, it has been seen in the works of DC Comics to arise from this villain in different ways and all are valid to some extent, the fascinating thing that none of us know the true origin of the character is that even he even heHe knows, we can see him in the comic entitled "The Killing Joke" written in 1988 by Alan Moore in which the same villain explains after some analepsis of his past that he has already deformed so much its origin that sometimes remembers it in a wayAnd sometimes another.

In general, this origin that was decided on this occasion to the villain because of the reality that reflects in the film, in fact, it is quite curious that the aggressive and intolerant representation of society is set in the 80sAnd yet it is very similar to the current one which makes me ask me if our current society is stagnant or we are simply in a continuous degeneration process.

I would also like to touch the issue of whether the character is really evil or we simply see it for various social norms, on the one hand Arthur is a sick man and it is this disease that makes him more vulnerable and the people around himThey use this vulnerability to abandon it socially and not to treat it as a normal person, an example of this is when his sign and his boss instead of understanding it accuses him of stealing the sign and does not believe his version of the story, he also makesThe comment that only a madman would think of stealing a sign, from this point of view we can see Arthur as a character who sought social acceptance and not getting it is that he begins to develop his madness and therefore the murders and other actionsthat came with this. It is there when the other point of view that you have, is the really evil Joker for opposing society? It could also be considered that it is not evil but only opposes social norms as a result of having been treated as garbage by people who do monitor these same norms, if these norms are considered as “correct” then the characterIt is the representation of the wrong and evil but if we put ourselves on the side of Arthur and instead of considering it a villain we notice that he is opposing society to make a revolution putting the vulnerable on his side we could then not consider him evil.

In general, making a value judgment of the moral characteristics of the Joker depends on the perspective with which we want to see it, as well as deciding whether we wantSpectator sometimes has this feeling of empathy towards Arthur to question what is good or socially speaking and making a reflection of how vulnerable people are treated.

Until now, he has been talking about the society treating Joker badly until he crazy but is society who makes it "evil" or he was already like that and it was society who did not teach him to be "good"? (Comillas are used in various words due to the previous explanation of social norms)

On the one hand we have the point of view of Jean-Jacques Rousseau who thought of his philosophical treaty entitled "Education" or "Emilio" that man is good by nature and that society is the one who is responsible for corrupting, in this caseThe society that has no empathy towards him and rejects him is the one who corrupts him because this rejection is what causes the Joker to oppose society, and not obeying it changes from being good to be evil.

On the other hand we have the thought of Thomas Hobbes who in his book "Leviatán" mentions that "man is a wolf for man", which means that the natural state of man is not peaceful but that he joins societyWith the sole purpose of surviving, from this position we could think that Joker was always in an aggressive state and that unable to join society for its own convenience, it ends it by rejecting and turning this state of aggressiveness against it.

In conclusion, it could be said that the film itself calls the viewer to make a reflection of the society represented, that is, that of the 80s to think about how we treat each other from a long time before until today. I consider that it is a good film since it makes real life issues that are complicated to analyze separately.

The film provides us with a protagonist who alone criticizes reality within the same film and with which we are easy to empathize as spectators, has the power to make us understand their actions without necessarily justifying them. I liked the fact of being able to speculate about the different perspectives that are right and the incorrect thanks to the character’s dialogues.

In general, I consider that it is a film based on perspectives and that is why everyone can have different opinions, theories and comments of it and however different they are among themselves have the same degree of validity, everything depends on the point ofview and for me is one of the great messages that it leaves and of which we must reflect.
