Selena Quintanilla was a very popular Mexican-American singer around the Hispanic community since the age of 12. His voice unites his followers and continues to do it although after his death. Selena was born in 1971- To give perspective, at this time the United States took a mission to the moon with the ferry, Apollo 14, while the Soviet Union creates the first space station. With that in mind, we will continue talking about Selena. She was born in Lake Jackson, tiles on April 16, 1971. His parents were Abraham Jr and Marcella Quintanilla. His father had a band in the fifties and sixties and played songs from the Mexican tradition- now this type of music is called “Tejana Music.”Selena was the youngest of three children. She went to school in the city of Lake Jackson- 55 miles from Houston. When he was only six years old, his father recognized his talent and eventually the three children formed a musical group called Selena and the Dinos. In the eighties his father opened a restaurant and Selena and the Dinos would sing for special events. His father wrote the songs and thus had to learn Spanish. The band had local followers, but when the restaurant fails, they moved. Eventually the band would travel throughout the state and be popular. When Selena decided to focus on her music, she left school but in 1989 she got her ged.

She was compared to so many people and they all said that she is neither Mexican nor American. She had problems trying to learn and speak Spanish. This caused Selena to doubt her ethnicity. I did not know if I could say that it is Mexican if I didn’t even speak Spanish. At the beginning of 1990, Selena took Spanish courses and with her father’s help, she could learn and find herself. In his 23 years of life, Selena managed to be named the Queen of Texmex. In all these years, it has sold more than 60 million copies worldwide. Even some songs have won more than 10 awards! Selena was nominated for 229 awards and won 170. He still wins until this day and thousands keep loving his music. Selena’s all life is a successful story, until 1995. At the beginning of that year.
