Review of the Tragic Literary of Antigone

 Introduction.

The first visible characteristic when reading this tragic drama is its development. A development that occurs through a sequence of choirs and episodes. The choir is the town, those who judge and issue opinions about each of the characters. Episodes are those that allow or present the entry and exit of the characters.

In what was studied in module 1, we could observe or learn several of the functions of the choir and one of its points was episode transitions in episode. Every transition gives a breath to drama. It is also a way of being organized. Each title of each episode in this drama gives us a small advance of what we are going to find when reading it.

Developing.

The second characteristic is how history represents life itself. The war between the brothers of Antigone, Eteocles and Polyinices, for the power to govern when King Oedipus is not. This is what Puerto Rico is currently living politically. They fight for power, and one comes and another one goes. It can also be compared in wealthy families, when the patriarch dies and leaves their inheritance and the children do not agree or do not comply with the stipulated.

We also realize the wisdom of the elders of Thebes. Our grandparents and parents when they tell us or want us to act in some way is for some purpose. It is not the age that makes you wise but experiences over the years. The wisdom of the elderly is a big mistake. They do not become wiser but more prudent. The third characteristic that we observe the way Antigone, the protagonist, dies. But the tragic as such is the death of Hemón, son of King Creon, promised of Antigone.

Conclusions.

This drama is very similar to the famous work of Shakespeare;Romeo and Juliet. When a family member or acquaintance dies it is a difficult situation, but when it is for suicide it is much stronger and more painful. Each person is a different world, so they think, feel and act differently. That is why for Hemon the suicide of his love was a big blow. Guilt, fear, despair and especially sadness were key for him to make the decision to end his life too.
