Racial discrimination as frequent behavior in Peru

On October 26, 1966 at the United Nations General Assembly. As a consequence of the proclamation of this day, many countries joined the initiative to eliminate discrimination and an international framework for the fight against racism could be built. Faced with this situation we ask ourselves the following question: do you think it is still racial discrimination between Peruvians? Given this controversy, I do not consider that racial discrimination between Peruvians still exists.

Racial discrimination between Peruvians. Salvador del Solar, former Minister of Culture, affirms that “racism is not normal we can grow in a country like the one we are still, a country that discriminates and a racist country and thinking that it is normal to make a racist joke and think that it is normal to make funor insult. It is not normal". We can also see these acts of discrimination in sports such as football, on February 5, on the first date of the summer tournament, when Landauri (soccer player) had the ball from the northern tribune, where the popular bar of University is locatedAnd he heard that the bar performed the guttural sound that reminds a primate, thus encouraging the victim. And in volleyball there have also been moments of discrimination, such as the renowned coach Natalia Malaga, who called "Volleyball Angelica Aquino" calls "in full party.

The Ministry of Culture attributes this paradox to the normalization of racist acts, since many people are ashamed to make public the discrimination they suffered public. Another of the reasons is the ignorance of the denunciation mechanisms, thanks to the fact that there is the difficulty of having evidence and the absence of a culture of sanction.

To know exactly the amount of Peruvians who have gone through a situation of Rial Discrimination INEI (National Institute of Statistics and Informatics) conducted a survey to understand what are the reasons why racial discrimination occurs. 32.2% of Peruvians are discriminated against their facial features. On 29.6% of Peruvians discriminated against their skin color. 16% of Peruvians are discriminated against by their place of origin.

In another survey conducted by the INEI, they asked the types of discrimination that some Peruvians received. 58.6% of Peruvians received a verbal aggression and 36% of Peruvians received an indifferent treatment.

An example of racial discrimination in Peru is the parody "La Paisana Jacinta", which causes an outrage towards the Andean woman. Because of her humiliating language, since parody represents a folly, illiterate woman, lacking teeth, who did not speak or understand Spanish very well and that her way of behaving was clumsy was. For the prejudices and stereotypes in which the character is expressed, "affirming in a sarcastic way" the figure of the Andean woman, contributing to the prejudices and stereotypes that have been permanent in Peruvian mentality.

Racial discrimination generates certain effects on people. This causes low self – esteem, which generates insecurities, social isolation and can even cause trauma. Consequently, it also produces depression in people and can have physical complications such as automutilation or heart disease among others and psychological, such as anxiety and suicidal thoughts. Therefore, behavior change is also another.

In summary, racial discrimination is a frequent behavior that still exists between Peruvians, which "is not normal" as the former landmark tells us. The Ministry of Culture mentions us that this act is normalizing, thanks to the fact that many people feel shame when making public the discrimination they suffered. INEI informs us with the surveys I do to publicize the reasons for this act, demonstrating alarming figures. Another contribution to discrimination is reflected in the parody "La Paisana Jacinta" that causes a repudiation to the Andean woman. We can also add the effects generated by racial discrimination that are the development of low self – esteem, depression and behavior change that people can suffer. Finally we believe that in Peru there should be no racial discrimination, since we are a multicultural and diverse country, so we must understand the cultural diversity we have and respect it.
