Introduction
There are currently various entities related to project management and their methodologies vary depending on the type of project. In our field, as engineering students we will find different projects that will require a specific methodology to be able to perform them. The objective of this essay is first to define that it is a project and what are the main edges that make it up, some types of example projects and the methodologies related to the same.

When talking about project administration or management, many concepts and many disciplines involved around it are underestimated; According to the PMI (Project Management Institute), a project is a set of coordinated and controlled activities, with a defined start and end date, aimed at creating a unique product or service and according to specific requirements, including limitations of time, cost and resources.
Knowing this definition we can identify what things are considered a project and that are beyond the scope of a project or by definition things that are not considered projects. Within the edges of a project as mentioned by the definition of the PMI, we can consider that a project can be of long or short duration, this implies that or not to have external and internal influences. A project starts from a base idea or a definition of what you want to achieve which involves a series of requirements, addition to this entails planning for its execution and finally a closure that represents the culmination and verification of compliance with the objectives of the project.
Project management is nothing more than the application of knowledge, tools, techniques and skills to meet the requirements established for the fulfillment of the project. Among any of the examples of projects in which I have had the opportunity to participate or lead are the following: the implementation of a new quality system, the reduction of rotation in a work environment and the construction of works. Of the examples that I have mentioned, although my specialization is the area of continuous improvement using the Six Sigma methodology, I have been able to find similarity in the execution of the same.
For an implementation of a quality system, the objective of the project is simple, however the scope of it is what can complicate the execution a bit, which is why defining the project itself is important, knowing what are the dates and the sequence that must be followed, explore alternatives depending on the situation or being able to create contingency plans to mitigate the risks, addition to being able to identify the project members and define their roles within it.
In this project the PMI project methodology based on the PMBOK or Book of Project Management Knowledge was used. Under a Six Sigma methodology a project consists of five main phases: definition, measurement, analysis, implementation and control. This methodology is very useful when it comes to reducing variation or eliminating waste from an existing process, as was the case with reducing labor rotation in a work environment. In areas such as information technologies (IT), where execution must be due to specific tasks, a methodology called Agile has begun, which divides the project into specific sub-tasks called Scrum.

Project management is a very wide field whose basis is usually the same regardless of the type of project, however the form or methodology of attacking or executing the project varies according to the approach that you want to give. It is important to know that there are activities that may seem projects however they are not, because they fail to define the definition of a project. Some additional examples of projects can be: the construction of a house or a road, the implementation of a new software, creation of a new product or service and relocation of a work plant from a site A to a site B.
