Student’s Name Professor’s Name Course Title Date of Submission PEDIATRIC OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA Introduction Obstructive sleep apnea is a sleeping condition experienced by children and characterized with morbidities in the endocrine, neurobehavioral, metabolic and cardiovascular systems. Some of the end organ injury caused by the disease include; inflammation of pathways and lack of sufficient oxygen in the body organs. Individual susceptibility towards the disease is determined by different factors like lifestyle and environmental conditions (Capdevila, et al.274). Symptoms of the Disease in Children Regular snoring among children during sleep time is a symptom of the disease. It is as a result of resistance in the increased upper airway of the throat. The habitual snoring subsequently causes interrupted sleep. Obesity is another cause of the disease among the children when they are still growing up. According to research conducted by Capdevila et al, the ratio of children who were obese and suffering from obstructive sleep apnea disease was high compared to those ones without obesity (274). From their findings it is evident that there are two types of the disease namely; type I which is associated with hypertrophy lymph adenoid without obesity and type II which associated with those children with obesity. The second type of the disease causes total closure upper part of the airway thus making it very difficult for the affected person to breath. Effects of the Disease When at its advanced stage, the disease is severe and therefore no chances should be taken when addressing to it.
