Novel ‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’

We can assume that the curse of the pig’s tail was discovered knowing the incest, but the Buendía family is so damn that it only manifests when parents are blind to the blood connection with each other.  In the essay, the perspective of the characters about the incest will be analyzed throughout the work and how is a great influence when the curse is shown. Through appointments, fear will be analyzed by women, recurring ignorance by men, and finally the influence of blindness towards incest will be evaluated. The Royal Spanish Academy defines incest as the “carnal relationship between relatives within the degrees in which marriage is prohibited.”, That is, sexual relations between relatives, whether consanguineous or by adoption.

Although these relationships are still seen today, anthropology establishes incest as a taboo in many cultures worldwide, especially in Western cultures. In a hundred years of solitude, one of the most recurring themes is the same, the incest within the Buendía family. The perspective of the incest by the Buendía family affects the manifestation of the curse of the pig tail. Yo

Interpretation.

The perspective will be introduced and will be exemplified by means of appointments extracted from the novel and then through inductive logic the explanation will be given. The Buendía family was damn before Melquiades arrived in Macondo. The act of incest of the Ursula and José Arcadio uncovered triggered the curse of the pig tail and caused fear. Although they were warned, the fate of José Arcadio and Úrsula was already written and married. "Their marriage was predictable since they came to the world,".José Arcadio does not fear incest since he expresses several times that "I don’t mind having pigs," but nevertheless, Úrsula yes. At the beginning of her marriage, and for a long time, she did not let her husband touch her. Úrsula maintained this chastity with her husband until the gossip of her virginity began to circulate. This caused the duel that ended in the death of Prudencio Aguilar. José Arcadio Buendía felt guilty, and finally Úrsula yielded her husband with her husband.  We can also think that it is a bit hypocritical to fear something so much, in this case to incest, but continue to practice it. Úrsula gave birth to José Arcadio, Colonel Aureliano and Amaranta; All healthy and normal children. Úrsula gave no pig, but she continued to deal with the possible situation of the pig as a threat.

You can say that she did a good job to instill that fear of her daughter Amaranta. Although at first Amaranta found a fascination with her tentative relationship with her nephew Aureliano José de her, her mother’s objections made her think and reflect on her actions. As much as Aureliano José begged him to continue, Amaranta ended the relationship; One of her reasons was the fear she had for her children to go out with a pig’s tail. Fear is one of the most predominant feelings towards incest by family women. We know that throughout her life, Úrsula fears the incest thanks to the perverse terrors caused by her mother. She expresses this fear in different ways. She first refuses her act of her with her husband, but then repeats what her mother did with her and terrifies her children. However, ignorance towards fear is recurring by male couples.

Amaranta is like her mother when we refer to the consciousness she has of the curse of pig tail when discussing her relationship about her relationship about her relationship.  In the case of Amaranta and her nephew Aureliano José, it is very obvious as the difference in maturity levels between the couple. Although at the beginning of his Amaranta relationship he is very excited and fascinates what is forbidden, he shows himself how little by little he matures and falls because of how much he had let the relationship move forward and finally speaks to Aureliano José to put an end to love affairs. "… Amaranta Rebatía-. Is that children with a pork tail are born. Aureliano José was deaf to every argument.

The behavior of immaturity and ignorance by the male facade is repeated with the case of José Arcadio and his adoptive sister Rebeca. The obedience that Amaranta ended up is not the same as her brothers, since they give to her family attraction more easily. Although Rebeca already had her recognized in love with her Pietro Crespi, she marries her brother José Arcadio days after her sexual encounter. The first to oppose marriage was Pietro Crespi, explaining that the relationship was against nature and against law."" It is against nature, "he explained (Pietro Crespi) -and, in addition, the law prohibits it. José Arcadio impatient not so much with the argument (…) -I shit twice in nature, "he said- (José Arcadio)” Pietro Crespi’s argument is solid, since he explains what is naturally and legally accepted; It is what should convince a mature person not to make the irresponsible decision to succumb to incest. Although Jose Arcadio does not mention the danger that his children will be deformed, the two issues can be related. It is said that the curse manifests itself as a result of an act against the natural, which is the same as Pietro argues to the nephew of his crush. In José Arcadio’s response is when immaturity and ignorance towards the situation is truly shown. He does not care "nature" and although we formally never received Rebeca’s opinion about this, we can assume that she agreed with her brother, since no discussion is mentioned on her part.

The fear and warning about the incest by Úrsula is what makes the curse never manifest during the first hundred years of loneliness, but the moment in which an incest relationship occurs when the characters are blind, the baby is born pork. Aureliano Babylon and Amaranta Úrsula did not know that they were consanguineous relatives, and at that time it is when the curse was presented. Blindness to incest is the key to making the curse again manifest. This also goes hand in hand with the prophecies written in the scrolls of Melquiades. Seeing his son Aurelian.  "The first of the lineage is tied in a tree and the last one is eating the ants". The first of the family, José Arcadio Buendía, dies tied to a tree; And now Aureliano Rodrigo died of the ants.

The incest began the family and now it was also the end of it. Fear, ignorance and blindness are different ways in which the Buendía family perceives incest throughout the plot. The curse of the pig tail began knowing the incest with the uncles of Úrsula and José Arcadio. When relatives commit incestuous acts knowing their consanguineous and/or adoption, the curse does not manifest itself. However, when they are not aware that their relationship is incestuous, the curse manifests. From the beginning, the author builds the idea that the Buendía family is a somewhat peculiar family; But as we read we understand the family so particular that García Márquez created. Not only are they cursed for more than a century, but they also give pleasure through one of the most predominant taboos in the world: incest.
