Impact of nature on the characters of the stories to drift and that is that we are very poor

In the works of Horacio Quiroga and Juan Rulfo we can see how nature impact humans some more serious than others. The writer Horacio Quiroga, makes the constant conflict in some of his stories between man and nature. The characters believe they dominate nature and in the end they are defeated by the environment. It should be noted that most Quiroga stories develop in a rural or jungle, and someone almost dies violently. Juan Rulfo also writes on this subject and demonstrated in these two stories. In this essay I will speak as in the stories "A drift" by Horacio Quiroga and "is that we are very poor" by Juan Rulfo the characters are marked by nature

The story "Drift" shows how an individual does not give up when he is slowly defeated by the forces of nature. The title of this story is symbolic, since the canoe is drifting, and at the time because the man is drifting from his death when the viper bites it “Man stepped on something soft and immediately felt the bite on the foot". This is an abrupt begins, we don’t know who it is, when and where, it only gives us in the first the topic of the story. Nature surprised a man in the jungle. As the story goes by, we appreciate the protagonist trying to save his life cornering other people but was not helped. Slowly the problems and pains go up all over their body. This represents the effects of nature in the form of poison, taking power of his life, “the pain in the foot increased, with a feeling of bullfighting, and suddenly he felt two or three bright stitches that, as lightning, had radiated fromThe wound half of the calf ". In addition to the venom symbol, Quiroga uses the river with high walls, "the Paraná runs there at the bottom of an immense hole, whose walls, high of one hundred meters, funerally encase the river" (Seva City), to symbolize that the protagonistHe is browsing the "river of life" and will soon die. The protagonist did not want to die does everything to avoid his sad destiny. In various parts of the story the author gives readers hope that the protagonist survives and that I create a strong dramatic tension. For example, when the protagonist arrives at the house of his compadre Alves, we hope that Alves will leave and help it, but Alves never comes out. Also, near the end the protagonist begins to feel better and, as will soon come to Tacuru-Pucu again gives him hope that “the poison began to leave, there was no doubt. He was almost well … he calculated that before three hours he would be in Tacuru-Pucu ”. But in the end he only reaches his death. These moments of hope help in the development of the issue because they teach readers that for more than one treats, if it is destined to die it will not be able to escape.

Here the strength of the environment takes a fundamental role in the story. The metaphor "funerally fit" (Seva City) shows a nature that prepares to be the Paulino drawer. At the end of the story, the whole landscape becomes black "from the shores they bordered black blocks rises the forest, black too". Black is taken as a death symbol. Nature accompanies him, and condemns him, no matter the struggle of man. That is why our protagonist only accompanies him. “As, as Paulino abandons Vital, nature is amazed but in the end, the road bends and each one goes along the path of his destiny: nature as if revived and Paulino dies, dies only without help without help." . In this story the atmosphere is a dynamic force, such as when you use these verbs to refer to it;Funeral, black, dreary, aggressive, and at the same time it is beautiful and majestic. The landscape gives it beautiful and hopeful colors, the sky "would have now been on gold screen", another metaphor that says that the life of a man passes like a golden screen, at the time he remembers his best moment in life. The same does the mountain that gives the river a "twilight freshness", which undoubtedly Paulino looks as something positive but could also be seen as the closeness of death.

In conclusion, we can see how this story shows the struggle of man in front of nature, which is the struggle that he could never win. This will always be imposed to man whatever happens why, it is simply a perfect creation, it is governed by laws and will always be respected.

Adding to the theme of nature against man, in the literary work "is that we are very poor" by Juan Rulfo presents us with a story that tells about the unfortunate life of a low -class family, which is subjected to a disasternatural caused by floods of the waters a river. Among the most terrible losses for this family, is the death of the cow of the twelve -year -old sister called Tacha who, given the demoralization and frustration of his father, feels condemned to accept a possible future.

Tacha was the most harmed of all for this disaster since the loss of his cow could fix it. “In this story, the serpentine cow can have many meanings in the work, however this time it is considered an opportunity that Cueha had. It was an exit from poverty ”, its only way which was closed and at the same time leaving it to follow a single path. The low social class is vulnerable to the injustices that Mother Nature sometimes does, as in this story you can see through the river. The river consumed all the assets of these peasants and I have misfortune.

Unlike the attitude of the main character in "Drift", throughout history, this family simply dedicates himself to witnessing his own misfortune, his attitude is totally passive or even makes the attempt to improve his situation, and this is reflected in some parts of the text: "… the only thing we could do, all of my house, was to be close under the fabric, seeing how the cold water that fell from the sky burned …", "… my sisterAnd I went back in the afternoon to look at that water pudonadero that becomes thicker and more dark … ”This reflects how the characters feel unable to do something to help themselves, so they limit themselves to observing their devastation. The conformism that the family shows is shown throughout history, “… I was very sleeping and yetI was collapsing the roof of my house. But then I went back to sleep, because I recognized the sound of the river and because that sound was doing the same until I bring my dream again."

In this appointment later, saying that the rumble made him awakened, he could be referring to the family reacted to the fact that the cow "the only hope" of the Tacha has been lost, but immediately says that he has already returned to sleep alreadythat he has recognized the sound of the river and that in a way this sound "lulls" and falls asleep again, and that is where conformism comes to light. Additionally, the river, as in the story "Drift", is also an important character, in which misfortunes are symbolized and the bad thing that happens. The appointment "… the noise of the river was stronger and could be heard closer. It smelled, as a burning smells, the rotting smell of the revoltthat have. The father of Tacha somehow wanted to save her from her destiny by buying the cow that comes from nature and nature also removes her.

In the final part of the story, we observe that as a result of the natural disaster, Tacha changes. The text tells us "on her face, dirty water drips run as if the river had gotten into it" . It is as if the dirt began to enter it, as the beginning of what awaits her, of the destiny that her parents have predisposed her. In the end Tacha realizes that he has lost everything to see that the river will never return the cow, which leaves it without any value in the eyes of good men and that is when he begins to cry because he knows that he will run with the sameGood luck that his two sisters, now realizes that his parents were right and their destiny is written. In the end he accepts it and that is why the text says: "… and the two breasts of it move from topTacha now knows what its destiny is.

In this way, the stories of Horacio Quiroga and Juan Rulfo (although with different results) show a brutal nature, far from the reader’s thought, where the characters are taken to extreme situations that put them to the test and even death.
