Immigration in Europe and its changes

During the last decade, Europe has been the main objective for world migrations, since according to various statistics, these have increased at high speed during the last 10 years. For example, in 2018, Spain became the first European Destiny of Sea Immigration, with an arrival of 57.250 people who crossed the Mediterranean Sea according to the IOM (International Organization for Migration).

Immigrants escape mostly due to conflicts that occur in their countries and do so by sea roads, mainly. This action causes their lives to risk, because they use boats such as pateras (small wooden vessels without little safety covers) that can hardly cross the ocean.

Additionally, when they manage to reach destination, they must face great rejection by local citizens (xenophobia), and even racism.

Being people living in conflict countries, they have the right to a type of protection for the countries that host them, but a migrants collapse has been reached and the option of giving them an optimal refuge is difficult. The IOM carries a weekly counting of immigrants in the old continent, in order to make known what are the main countries that have been affected by immigration.

According to an immigration ranking study, Italy is located in the 59th position of countries with the highest percentage of migration in the world. In 2016, more than 181 have landed in the main ports of the country.436 people, and one of the concerns is that the arrival of minors without company has doubled, compared to previous years. Children’s protection is one of the strongest claims of NGOs (non -governmental organizations) and in their assistance also collaborates with UNICEF (United Nations Childhood Fund). But in 2017 the transalpine country has had a fall in the number of arrivals, 62.436 people less compared to 2016, according to the Italian Interior Ministry. Because the Libyan authorities helped stop the departure of people during the second half of the year. "We were able to govern the flow because we were the first to believe that an agreement with Libya was a turning point," said Italian Interior Minister Marco Minniti. On November 28, 2018, the Italian Parliament approved a Law on Security and Immigration promoted by the Minister of Interior and Chief of the League (extreme right), Matteo Salvini. This decree facilitates the deportation of immigrants who commit crimes and strips those convicted of terrorism of their Italian citizenship. As a result of this, immigrants numbers are expected to continue collapsed in recent years.

In addition to Italy we have Greece, a country that has also had inconveniences related to immigration. The year 2015 had become the entrance door to Europe. The premises were disposed to receive newcomers, providing them with protection and refuge. More than 800 had arrived.000 immigrants from Africa to Lesbos Island, considered the "place of hospitality". However, at present, the conditions have changed, citizens no longer show a willingness to help migrants while they wait in extreme conditions for the process to receive asylum. One of the causes was the crisis that affected Greece during the last decade and that prevented the development of new tourist projects.

Another factor was the agreement signed between Turkey and the European Union in 2016, which considered to return to Turkey to those who arrived in Greece as irregular migrants. The entry into force of the pact forced many to remain in Greece while developing an asylum application process. Subsequently, there is a very intrigue case that happened in 2015 and it is about the history of the Syrian child of only three years, which found on the coast of Turkey. Reuters photographer, Nilufer Demir captured the fact in an image that went around the world. The child was drowned on the seashore and thanks to the image, we could know what his name was. It turned out to be Aylan Kurdi, who had died with his brother of five, Galip Kurdi, and his mother. They were part of a group of Syrians who had sailed from the Bodrum Turkish Peninsula trying to reach the Greek island of Kos, but they could not arrive, since the boat that transported more than 30 people shipwrecked on the beaches of Turkey.

Based on the above, I consider that immigration is a difficult decision for the foreign citizen, since it requires a great effort that can often affect its integrity, such as risking its life by crossing borders illegally. It seems good to me that there are regulations before the immigration system, since this controls in some way that the people entering the country do not have a history, thus avoiding putting the population of the country that receives them at risk that receives them.
