Hydraulic fracturing: Fracking tragedy in Colombia
For many years it has been evidenced that fraking in Colombia has caused unfavorable consequences for both human and environment, a situation that has been very controversial due to the lack of consciousness and greed by the national government by not looking for another alternative as a source of economic income for the country.
Fracking is a technique used to extract natural gas from some sedimentary rocks which prevent the movement of gas into easier extraction areas, for this it is necessary to inject millions of liters of water loaded with chemicals and toxic, these substances can be carcinogenic ormutagenics being harmful to the health of the human and for the proper conservation of the environment since they contaminate water with fluids and even with the gas that is intended to be extracted. Many of these additives are volatile and have the ability to go to the atmosphere directly, apart from the aspects mentioned above the fracking process compromises other environmental effects such as the exhaustion of water sources, soil pollution due to spills and flows of Return, induced seismicity and noise pollution.
Currently in Colombia the president of the Republic Iván Duque, through the Ministry of Mines and Energy, decreed Resolution 40185 in which technical criteria for the development of Pilot Projects of Integral Research (PPII) are established in unconventional deposits through of fracking, a measure that by some congressmen is not pertinent or clearly clear and honest, since they ensure that these pilot plans are far from having scientific and research purposes violating the principle of environmental caution.
To perform the hydraulic fracturing process, huge amounts of water are required by well that can increase even more when there is a fracturing of them, thus causing problems in water availability. Because of this great demand it is usual to obtain it through natural beds and even municipal resources. Apart from this, the problem also lies in the fact that the water used is not reusable, since it remains for prolonged times in the wells or is discarded inside them to clean the residues of the operation.
Some of the reasons for the permanence of fracking mainly comprise the obvious economic income to the nations, registering an increase in their levels of hydrocarbons production and improving their marketing system, thus estimating an exponential increase that could lead them to self-support. Although fracking promised important advantages and succeeded, the only thing that would be achieved is the dependence of the humanity of fossil fuels, which are limited and for which they must be paid.
Within the margin of the unfavorable consequences due to fracturing soils, it is possibleof drilling and traffic of vehicles.
Finally, it is possible to consider and show through the text and several sources referringHydraulic as the only alternative of energy supply, renewable energies will always be the most favorable energy resources to be used and that are in abundance, so they should be developed and used since they are existing techniques whose negative impacts are lower and have industrial sectors andtechnological ones willing to take advantage of them, and thus achieve replacing the use of oil as the most common commercial result of this technique.
