Introduction

Arnold Van Gennep, actually called Charles Kurr, was born in 1873 and is considered the creator of French ethnography. This ethnography consisted mainly in the attempt of man to understand the rest of the men, and to try to discover and understand those unusual aspects that occur within a social environment or a society. Van Gennep decided that the best thing to achieve his goals was to train in different disciplines to have greater knowledge about several areas. In addition, he lived much of his life as an employee of the Government, and also lived in a certain way of the realization of articles, translations, conferences, etc.

Developing

Van Gennep disagree with the idea of being listed within a single school or current of thought, since he felt that this interfered with his freedom. Similarly, their position was against those who considered traditions as archaic survival, and flatly refused to privilege in any way the museum objects, above beliefs, and even, of the same thought. This considered that the only real difference that existed between ethnography and folklore was that ethnography had as a field of work all those non-anouropeas populations.

Folklore had the rural populations of Europe as a field; But he believed that both were in charge of studying living collective facts. Van Gennep considered that the main concerns of the time were the construction of classifying categories and the establishment of general laws, derived from empirical observation. It also postulates that any ritual action must be executed according to an order of fixed acts, since this order with which these rites are executed constitutes, in itself, a magical-religious element of an essential reach. He mentioned that thus, when analyzing ceremonies, the reason for being of said ritual could be understood.

conclusion

He said that both groups and individuals are in a constant and incessant change, since they change the state and form. Van Gennep tried to group those ceremonial sequences that accompany the passage from a social situation to another, that is, as passing rites, and proposed to take as a model of preliminary rites to those that consisted of a type of separation of the world or anterior state, ofliminal rites to the rites executed during the state of marginalization, and finally, of post -liminal rites to the rites of aggregation to the new world, to the new social status, and to the new material aspect.
