First discovery of channels on Mars
Are we alone in the universe? It is a question that man has tried to answer throughout history;but that very few overwhelming responses have come to be;As in the case of the Mars channels, where the Italian astronom. Schiaparelli was not the only one to study the curious lines that appeared on his telescope observing the surface of Mars, but also the famous North American Astronomer Percival Lowell, who decided to start a lot of time in his life in the investigation of the Mars. These astronomers made a series of detailed steps to be able to conclude that there was life on another planet;That thanks to today’s technology, we know that this idea is wrong;And he has left that approach to the Mars channels in history. This procedure is what we call, the scientific method, a procedure which is mainly used to find new knowledge in science. What fails in this experiment?
Initially being a scientist implies, not believing in what others say or rumora;If not checking oneself that others affirm through a scientific method, in which steps are mainly used to find new knowledge;On the other hand, society clings to a set of values, feelings, beliefs that make sense for them without first checking it. The scientific method that was used for the "discovery" of the Mars channels, was executed in an orderly manner. This began in 1877, when astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli, made in Italy a series of observations of the surface of Mars, where he saw a set of dark rectilinear geological formations, which he named, Canali;A word that in Italian refers only to the channels of natural origin. At the beginning of the 20th century, between 1895 and 1908, the percival amateur astronom. Finally José Comas y Solá and Eugène Antoniadia showed that, although there really were certain geographical accidents of apparently more or less linear layout on the Martian surface (which corresponded to the so -called Lowell channels), in no way possessed the notable characteristics that denoted artificial constructiondescribed by him. Because at the time where the hypothesis of possible channels on Mars was formulated, the technology located on those dates was not very advanced or modern, so it could be one of the main causes of the confusion between;lines on the Mars surface caused by geographical accidents;and channels that had dimensions that traveled the planet from the poles to Ecuador and had a width of 100 to 200 km, which had supposedly been built by alien life. Without realizing it, one begins to deform the facts to adapt to the theories, instead of adapting theories to the facts ”, and that was just one of the things that astronomers did so it becomes another of thegreater factors causing channel disaster. Consequently, society ended up believing that event for a great period of time, creating illusions that there could be extraterrestrial life on other planets, thus producing very famous works and films left over alien invasion on Earth, and creating great fear in themost people of that time.
As well as, a few decades ago, the atom was considered the smallest particle;Due to the technological advance and historical context in which we are, we know that there is an even smaller particle called Quantum. Consequently we can affirm that all the discoveries made, have been thanks to the curiosity of the human being and the research method that has been made to reach this conclusion. Since, as we advance and evolve, technology will continue to develop, therefore there will always be new discoveries to make, making it clear that it cannot be affirmed that there is a theory in which it is reflectedthe absolute or definitively truth since they will always be changing.Thanks to the scientific method we can be sure that everything that generates some concern or curiosity will not lead to great discoveries.
In conclusion, what failed in the experiment of the Mars channels was because the time at which the astronomers they experienced were placed to know about the Mars channels, did not have an advanced technology, so when making the observations, they did not verify these and therefore the thing about the channels of Mars ended up being a failed discovery.
