Femicides in Mexico City: between punitive populism and legislative deafness. 

Propose, listen, reconcile and build spaces for party neutrality are some of the expressions of politics, and more, when it comes to delicate issues such as femicides.

They have been accompanied in the winds that today mark populist addresses, alarming and atrocious cases of violence against women in Mexico City, a situation that demands a high degree of sensitivity and concrete solutions to respond to a crisis that goes beyondof the legal.

Given the severe crisis of femicides, many local legislators of this city have proposed to increase the penalties and the catalog of crimes (punitive populism) as a feasible solution, however, the answer is not so simple, because with that measure the problems are not addressedsocial, economic and legal underground, and that go beyond legislating media.

And is that the typification of feminicide as a crime does not reduce femicides. Nor does the increase in penalties for this crime.
