Euthanasia: suffer or die

Introduction

From ancient times, society maintains the belief that life is sacred and therefore we must enjoy it until its end. However, there is the dispute that, if correct or incorrect, sin or not, moral or immoral, practice euthanasia. I think anyone would like to see a relative or a friend in bed, feeding on a probe, with medication batteries in an atmosphere of suffering and sadness. We would like pain to end, but not through death … complicated, right?

It is a bioethetic dilemma that I wait for anyone to live or observe in a loved one. For this issue, I invite you to continue reading this essay so that with the information and positions for and against which I will explain, you form a firm and argued opinion.

Developing

Euthanasia consists of the voluntary intervention that accelerates the death of a terminal patient with the intention of avoiding suffering and pain of the individual. In this century, efforts to change government policies on euthanasia have had limited success. On the other hand, they have been developed by non -governmental organizations, mainly medical associations. In countries of "First World" it has already been legalized, such as Switzerland, Belgium or the Netherlands.

Being a controversial problem, we have to know both positions and with our criteria, create an opinion about it. On the one hand, mostly politicians and priests, they go against euthanasia based on Christian ethics and law. In one, the “you will not kill” is ordered in the 10 commandments. While in the law, which is the Mexican Political Constitution in its article 4, the decent life is established as a right.

It can be refuted with that same law, since decent life is not only to meet basic needs, but physical and psychological well -being. And the pain (which is the worst of all evils) is inevitable, however, suffering is optional, since we decided to suffer or not. In addition, unlike abortion, in euthanasia there is no dispute over another being in danger: the only life that is at stake is that of a patient who freely expresses his will.

If you ask for my opinion about it, it is that euthanasia is a great option, but only in the case of voluntary, not even his family can decide. We all have the right to live with dignity and the freedom to choose, in case of being humanly impossible to end a disease, end our life.

conclusion

I conclude this essay with words of Sir Thomas Hugues, a renowned English doctor of a clinic for terminal diseases, “it is about recognizing that a person is dying, and giving options. Do you want to have an oxygen mask on your face? Or he would like to kiss his wife?". This is very clear, we cannot talk about human freedom for all equally if we do not allow someone who lives indignantly with physical and psychological pain, opt for euthanasia. It is pure selfishness not letting someone choose about their own life.
