Introduction

Dr. Faustus from Christopher Marlowe and Fausto’s myth in the Golden Age, by DR. Simon Brown Christopher Marlowe is a very mysterious and curious figure in English literature. There is even evidence that there were playwrights that were hired to modify and represent it in their own way. Marlowe was a great influence on the subsequent theater, also influencing the Shakespeare theater that imitated his way of doing theater and even the joint authorship with some of his works is attributed. He also popularized the "Mighty Line", a type of verse of great importance in later English theater. Additionally, its theater fits with the type of special effects theater that from this moment becomes popular and numerous works with content related to the devil and these effects appear.

With this myth you can establish a parallel with the Spanish theater of the Golden Age where its influence is seen. In the work there is no thing like Callarón de Calderón de la Barca where the protagonist is a mixture between Fausto and Don Juan. In the work there are continuous references to selling the soul and the devil, and also although the devil does not appear there is a pact because he mentions that he would sell his soul because he met Leonor, a woman who has fallen in love and when he returns heFind in your room.

Also in the work of Tirso de Molina, the mocker of Seville appears a man without identity and there are references to make pacts with the demon talking about hell and fire. The devil is also associated with humor because we laugh at what scares us and fear. A difference with the English Faust is that he agrees with the devil with the objective of knowledge and his Spanish versions do so to get a woman, this is related to pride as a capital sin. 

The woman is associated with the temptation that leads men to failure and this conception of women is also seen in Marlowe’s work the only ones that are mentioned to the woman. Once she was a demon instead of a woman to marry and one last time, just before her death, Helena de Troya appears, the most beautiful theory woman in history and when kissing her absorbs her soul ending her life. This last failure coincides with the misogynist conception that Spanish works have when they relate women as a sin for men.

conclusion

The doctor’s conference has been very interesting because the story was unknown to me behind Fausto’s famous myth. The authorship of this work is a concept that caught my attention and as the idea of authorship is completely different from the one that currently exists. Right now, an author would not let control of his work be lost as they did when selling it. It is also very interesting parallelism and the influence that this work has in Spanish literature with its similarities and their differences, the case of women and knowledge.
