Bioethics term and its examples

Bioethics is a term that defines the relationships between the ethical and the biological;designates a statute discipline still not well defined (cruellls, 2005) its origin is more extensive than ethics itself. In this discipline that has been in development since 1970, it highlights the way of imparting great ethical rationality that has been determined on life in general, including the health system.

It covers all ethical envelopes related to interference in biology. Including the incident norms of good biological conservation, from man and his own environment, extending to the entire biological scale and especially to the environment of his own relevant existence. Those norms are fixed by the name according to their own criteria, which is a variant in human development, on what it can consider good or bad for biological species and their surrounding environment.

The term is composed of the prefix bios that in Latin means life to ethical word, covering the human being as the consequences that are made in its ecosystems, and the planet. Bioethics deals with the norms that govern the behavior of man with each other, with biological species and the consequences that those behaviors exposed in the ecosystem

Medical Bioethics

In the Encyclopedia Biioethics it is defined "Bioethics is the systematic study of human behavior in the field of biological sciences and health care, to the extent that this behavior is examined in the light of moral values and principles". (Cruellls, 2005)

Professor Casabona refers to "it is a new science that is dedicated to studying the implications they have for man and environment the progress of medical and biological sciences". Not only cover the ethical or moral point of view, but also philosophical, legal, economic and social, among others. Medical bioethics implies adding new concepts, advances of scientific knowledge and criteria.

Medical Bioethics Code

The code of medical bioethics deals with the set of rules or duties that doctors must be adjusted in their actions during the practice of any branch of medicine. Bioethics is a guide that represents behavior in professional practice.

Code of the World Association of Physicians:

"I will practice medicine with conscience and dignity. (Cruellls, 2005) I will maintain a supreme respect for human life from the moment of its conception and, even under threats, I will not use my knowledge against humanity ”(Cruellls, 2005)

The first code

Nuremberg’s code is an international reaction to what happened in Nazi Germany. This establishes:

  • The consent of the individual to be a person of scientific research, must be free of any type of cohesion means that the individual has the right to complete the freedom to participate as a subject of research.
  • The use of experimentation in people should be used as a last resort and after this the study of natural research and history must be detailed.
  • In the experiment, it must be tried to avoid any unnecessary pain, insensibly of its nature, and if reasons occur before they hint irreparable damage or death that person must be suspended immediately.
  • The experiment must always be directed, controlled and managed by scientifically qualified personnel.  This or the research subject has both the obligation and freedom to suspend the experiment if there are reasons.

 

International Code of Medical Bioethics

Duties of doctors in general:

  • The doctor must maintain the highest level of professional behavior with all staff.
  • The doctor is not allowed for profit reasons to influence the procedure of their professional judgment from their patients.
  • The doctor must perform their medical practices with technical and moral autonomy, with compassion and respect for human decency.
  • The doctor must collaborate with society and denounce doctors lacking ethics, who carry out fraud and deception.
  • The doctor must obey and respect the rights of the patient, colleagues and other professionals who work in their environment and protect the confidences of patients who are at their service.

 

Duties of doctors towards the sick

  • The doctor must remember that preserving human life is their obligation.
  • The doctor owes to his patients all the means of his science and loyalty.
  • When an exam or treatment exceeds its capacity, its duty is to call another qualified doctor in the matter to understand the patient.
  • The doctor, after the death of his patient he must remember to secretly preserve everything his patient has entrusted.

 

Doctors’ duties among themselves

  • The doctor must present a respectable behavior with his colleagues
  • The doctor does not drink competing with his colleague by patients or snatching them.

 

Bioethics as a regulator of human behavior

The objective of study of bioethics is human behavior, life and health sciences, method of study, moral values and principles in the form of systematic and interdisciplinary with global vision.

Bioethics is the use of the interdisciplinary value of dialogue at all levels, between science and ethics to solve and formulate the problems already posed by research and technology in life, health and environment.

The etymological origin of the word (bios: life in general and ethos: values and norms of behavior, goodness or evil of human acts and rules of behavior) points out that an existing relationship opens that relates life and moralspresent in current societies.

In this there is great participation of diverse disciplines that contribute their personal knowledge and points of view, which allows us.

  • Bioethics is the knowledge that tries to explain, how to use knowledge.
  • Bioethics is a branch of ethics that is dedicated to the correct behavior of the human with respect to life.

 

Being a science that seeks reasons to adapt human behavior to the good of the universe. Bioethics is the "ethics of life" without the habits and behavior of man associated with life.

It is a humanistic movement that regulates several intervention actions that can be carried out on life, guaranteeing what is good for today’s current man and its successive generations.

It has many factors that can arrive affect human behavior such as biological factors, personality, psychodynamic and environmental. It is very important that the individual knows the factors that can affect their personality as those of other people, recognizing these factors, it is possible to help improve the improvement of ethical behavior.
