BIBLIOGRAPHY OF EDWARD THORNDIKE: Behavioral psychology

Edward Thorndike was a psychologist and pedagogue considered the predecessor of behavioral psychology. The main contributions were the learning/error learning and the effect law.

The main terms used in operating conditioning are:

  • Stimulus: It is understood as the response to the reaction of an organism.
  • Answer: refers to the behavior of an organism as a reaction to a stimulus.
  • Conditioning: It is described as learning derived from the interaction between stimulus and response.
  • Reinforcement: refers to the consequence of the behavior that makes it repeat again.
  • Punishment: the opposite of reinforcement. It is the consequence of the behavior that makes it not repeated again.

 

Following Thorndike’s experiments, Skinner based on the effect law, introduced positive and negative reinforcement concepts. Skinner defended that behavior is the result of the interaction between stimulus and response.

According to Vicente, defines operating conditioning as a type of learning in which the subject performs a behavior in order to achieve something that interests him or avoiding something annoying. The behavior is aimed at a goal. This means that learning in a behavioral product dependent on the consequences of reinforcement, so, the interactions between stimulus and response are not learned, but that the answer is related to the consequences of consequences.

Before the rest of the students, we would have to give them a positive reinforcement every time Rodrigo bothers and sticks them, and the students also managed to ignore him. Reinforce positively so that Rodrigo see that following the class in a cozy and quiet environment leads to an improvement in the general well -being of the class, and particularly in Rodrigo, which would get students to work in collaboration and help each other.

Social attention is one of the most notable positive reinforcers. The child usually see that the more disturbing, hitting, bothering, the more attention he receives from the teacher. With which, we must withdraw this reinforcement with ignorance from the child’s pranks. Surely Rodrigo will cease to do them.
