Introduction.

Only when the Renaissance arrived, it is when evolution occurred in the field of representations with the laws of perspective and with a system that was based on geometry. During the Baroque, illusions predominate, but ambiguous images that hide meanings and elements arise.

Romanticism led artists to represent optical illusions produced by atmospheric phenomena, such as rainbow or sunset and in the eagerness to capture light, led to producing new theories about color and as the human eye perceived it. The OP Art was born in the United States in the 1958, is a type of visual art that uses optical illusions, in whom it observes, actively participates, moving to capture the optical effect. It is an abstract artistic current created in order to deceive the human eye.

Developing.

The antecedents of the OP Art, date, in terms of graphic effects and color, neo -impressionism, cubism, futurism, constructivism and dadaism, where geometry, proportion, harmony and dimension, were important characteristics inthe distortion of the view or the creation of an illusory effect on space.

It is characterized by being completely impersonal, since since its inception it was intended to take off from the spiritualism of the post -war abstractions, resulting in an art without emotions transferred to the spectator, but illusions. This movement is closely related to the constructivist practice of the Bauhaus school that focused their attention on the relationship between form and function within a framework of analysis and rationality.

It expanded in the 60s to the field of fashion, textiles, architecture and graphics. All the works of the OP Art, are physically static although they cause a sensation of movement. It aims to create visual effects of movement, vibration, blur and flashes. The main resources used are the parallel lines, straight or curves, marked chromatic contrasts, changes in the shape and size of the same, combination or repetition of various forms and figures.

The use of simple geometric figures is a resource used frequently within the works of the OP Art, such as rectangles, circumferences and triangles in a constant, repetitive and uniform pattern and that are usually located diagonally, circular or in horizontal complex curvesor vertical. Symmetry is one of the fundamental resources within the movement, since the diversity of forms would prevent the main objective of these works, the perceptual effect. It is a non -classical symmetry because each element is part of the whole and not several dispersed around another main.

Conclusions.

The most used material to generate the works, is acrylic in order to achieve smooth and defined surfaces and shapes, in addition to perfectly cut wood, glass, metal or plastic. The color in the works is used without any limitation, considering only the functional criteria. They range from pure colors, to the gray range, reaching black and white. Optical works are usually repetition structures. They are works that reflect a structural order in a strict sense and are usually serial systems supported by the repetition of the same elements, whether linear or chromatic.
