Developing

In the movie Spellbound (1945) Hitchcock brings the psyche as theme. Psychoanalysis and as the human mind plays with ourselves. As they say "the mind is the crazy of the house". Spellbound also includes scenes that became classics that still continue to play today. In Vermont’s Green Manors Mental Hospital, the young and brilliant psychoanalyst Constance Peterson, is known for maintaining love and social relationships separated from her work unlike her doctors doctors. She is only interested in her work. The head of the institution, the old driver. Murchison retires, involuntarily.

He had had an episode of nervous exhaustion due to excess work, and the Board had decided that this could happen again and that he needed to withdraw. When he retired he was replaced by the young dr. Edwards, who public an acclaimed book on guilt complexes. To Dr. Edwardes arrive at the institute. A sentimental chemistry is created between him and the dr. Peterson Constance. But reactions occur by "edwardes" that create suspicion about their mental health. In an instant during dinner at the first night. Dr. Edwards reacts strangely and violently to see the DR. Constance draw with a fork on a napkin.

As the days go by, the friendship between Edwardes and Peterson is strengthening and putting more loving. During a night Constance goes to Edwards’s room, and both declare the mutual love they have. But while they are hugged, he has another strange reaction to see the stripes in a white mantle. Then he receives a phone call. One of the patients has become very agitated and tried to cut their throat and take the patient to surgery. The Edwardes and Constance doctors go there. Suddenly the dr. Edwardes has a serious panic attack in the operating room, losing control and his ability to exercise his job.

Then they take him to his own room and Constance stays with him to take care of him. While Constance is taking care of him, she realizes that her autograph in a copy of her book, which she has borrowed from the library, is very different from her signature in a note that she had written. And she concludes that Dr’s replacement. Murchison is not who says he is. He is not dr. Edwardes. When he wakes up, Constance confronts him and says: “You are not e dr. Edwardes ". Then the alleged doctor confesses and says that he does not know who he is. But he remembers that he killed the real dr. Edwardes, and is occupying his place. Dra. Constance the diagnosis with amnesia and guilt complex.

The only clue she has about who she really is, is a box of cigaretrrillos with the letters "J.B. ‘. Constance trusts him completely and will help him cure him and solve the mystery of DR. Edwardes. Then during the night J.B (who was going through dr. Edwardes), he writes a letter saying that he cannot involve it in this, because he loves her and that she goes to the Empire State hotel in New York. The next morning, the police arrive. They were notified by the secretary of the DR. Edwardes, saying that when she called him Green Manors, she didn’t recognize her voice. And the police show a photograph of the doctor to staff, and everyone agrees that he is not ‘dr. Edwardes "and report to the real dr.

Edwardes as lost. Then the police and staff go to Constance’s room. She says she left Dr. Edwardes in his own room, and that he was too agitated to speak. She also notes the letter on the floor near her door, but she is too scared to pick it up while the others are present. Police and other staff members left. The doctor. Murchison is the last to leave, and, seeing the letter (which J.B. He wrote to Constance) on the ground, lifted it and passes it to Dra. Constance. She reads her and finds out where she was.B. The next day she goes to the hotel in New York.

After finding her room number by recognizing her writing on the hotel registration cards (which was recorded as "John Brown‘), she goes to her room and talks to him. She wants to use his experience as a psychoanalyst, to cure him of his amnesia and guilt complex. He believes he killed the dr. Edwardes, I took his identity, and went to Green Manors. But she is absolutely convinced that he is innocent. She notes that her left hand has been burned. He relives some kind of incident in which he must have been, but he can’t remember more details. She determines that he is some kind of doctor, after asking some questions.

But when they realize that his name and his photo are in the newspaper, they have to make a quick exit of the hotel. And they go to the Grand Central station, to take a train somewhere. They notice that the police are at the station. And Constance decides to go to her dre’s mentor. Bulov, who is a psychoanalyst, like her. On the train, J.B. Remember that he was in the United States Army as a doctor, flying over Rome, Italy, and his plane was shot down. And at that moment he remembers that his burn was for that event. Upon arriving at Bulov’s house they see two men who turn out to be police, questioning the dr.

Bulov knows about dr. Edwardes. And they mention that the DR. Edwardes disappeared on a trip to the Cumberland mountains with a patient of his. Bulov trying to get the police officers on top of them tells them that he didn’t like dr. Edwardes. ‘What kind of analyst is he, that he wants to cure psychosis by taking skating people? Or a bowling alley? ‘After the police departure, Constance appears together with John Brown announces that she is married, and presents her" husband "John. The doctor. Bulov is delighted by her and says, “women make the best psychoanalysts, until they fall in love. After that, they make the best patients.

‘Then they go to the room to rest and Bulov of good night tells them‘ happy dreams, that we will analyze at breakfast. ‘In room J.B. You are worried that DR. Bulov could suspect something. Constance assures him that Alex is really not very skilled in social situations. Then j.B. He has another anxiety attack while he looks at the bed, which is white with parallel lines (as on dinner night with Constance). Dr. Constance realizes that the parallel lines on a white background seem to activate these attacks. During the night, John Brown wakes up, and goes to the bathroom to shave.

While he mixes the shaving soap, he has another attack, for the white color of the soap, the sink and the bathtub. (Apparently the white color is unleashed these reactions) He goes down, in a shock state, holding the razor razor. Bulov is down, having woken up at night. Offers J.B. a glass of milk. Then he notices the knife, and discreetly puts a sedative dose in J’s milk.B. In the morning, the dr. Constance Low of the room, asking if j.B. It is gone. The doctor. Bulov points to him, sleeping on the couch. The doctor. Bulov tells Constance that he knows that J.B. It is possibly a murderer. And he is going to call the police, but Constance says “I couldn’t feel like that towards a man who is bad."

But Bulov tells her that she is blindly in love and crazier than him. Although Bulov has suspicion about John Brown he is finally convinced to help J.B. and cure him from his amnesia and guilt complex. Then Dr. Bulov wakes up j.B. and begins with analytical psycho therapy. J.B. has had a dream. The doctor. Bulov tells him that dreams hide the person’s thoughts and wishes, but they are mixed. (Bulov uses Freud’s methodology for dream analysis). What happens later is John Brown’s famous scene. The scene was created with the help Salvador Dalí. Al John describe his dream, there are several important images and meanings.

John b. He tells he was in a casino, surrounded by curtains with eyes painted in them. Other people have no face. He plays with a seven man with a beard, who says he has 21 and has won. But the other opponent cards are blank. Then the owner comes and accuses the bearded man of cheating. He says “This is my casino, and if I take you cheating again, I’ll throw you. “(The eyes are a symbol that someone saw him doing a type of crime and demonstrates his guilt complex. On the other hand, facesless people demonstrate their amnesia.) In the next scene, the man with the beard leans on the inclined edge of a high building.

John shouts that he is careful, but he falls on the edge. Then the owner appears behind a fireplace, holding a wheel. Drop the wheel. In the next scene, J.B. He is running down a slope and a creature with big wings behind him. Then John. He begins to remember the ski journey. Thanks to the track of the creature with wings which come to the conclusion that it was an angel, which connect with the Angel Gabriel and reach the premise that the place where ski was called Gabriel Valley. Constance convinces John, that he was traumatized for some of him’s childhood, and that they had to go to Gabriel Valley and unlock that secret and find out what happened to dr. Edwardes.

They go to Gabriel Valle and begin to ski. Skiing John and Constance they find a dangerous cliff at the end of the hill. John Brown remembers him at the last moment, and also remembers a brief incident of his childhood. He was sliding through an outdoor handrails, and accidentally or played man. Remembering, stops and saves Constance just in time. "I didn’t kill my brother,". It was an accident. His memory returns and he remembers that his name is John Ballentine. He met dr. Edwardes during a psychological treatment with him. Then skiing in Gabriel Valley.

Where dr. Edwardes falls into the precipice and dies. But it was too late. Police found the doctor’s body. And a bullet inside your body. Police arrest John Ballentine and accuse him of homicide. Constance returns to Green Manors. The doctor. Bulov visits her and offers her condolences for her the arrest of John Ballentine. After he leaves, the dr. Murchison, who is back as head of the institution, speaks with Constance. During your conversation, the DR. Murchison says he knew the dr. Edwardes a little. Murchinson say this Constance creates a theory about Murchinson as Dr. Edward’s murderer.

If she knew the dr. Edwardes, she would have instantly known that John Ballentine was not the real Edwardes when he arrived in Green Manors. She reaches a devastating conclusion, and faces dr. Murchison. She discusses John Ballentine’s dream. And while they argued John’s dream. Murchinson let his confession out of murdering the doctor. Constance presents that the casino symbolized both the institute and the restaurant in New York, where John had had dinner with the DR. Edwardes. The card suit and number 21 indicated that the restaurant was club 21. The bearded man who played the cards with John was the dr. Edwardes.

The man who threatened him was dr. Murchison. Then the most devastating symbol "the wheel" that he was holding was a revolver. The doctor. Murchison hid behind a tree, shot the dr. Edwardes and threw the gun. Police can track DR. Murchison to Club 21 and the Gabriel Valley and you will find the weapon with the fingerprints of the DR. Murchison. The doctor. Murchinson says they won’t find the weapon there because he is on his desktop. He takes it out and threatens to kill her. She slowly moves away. He does not kill her, and, after she has left the room, he turns the weapon and suicide. The explosion of the gun is bright red, the only moment in the film that is not in black and white.Spellbound is an interesting classic in my opinion.

conclusion

It plays the issue of mental health and how the mind is protected or affected by certain events that occur with the passing of life. The use of psychoanalysis and Freudian methods are vital for the film’s plot. These methods cure and prevent John Ballentine from going to jail. Constance Psychoanalyst Woman, was the most important character to solve the mystery. Demonstrating her ability regardless of gender, only intellect. Alfred’s decision to do this in the film during this time was a very progressive idea. Which shows that, since before the 21st century, the woman has had main papers in Hollywood films. And they are capable, equal or more than men in anything.
