You can also see romantic influence on the composition of the work. The scheme is made up of two blades in the form of a blade that cross in the red pants of the mameluco that is being unreasonable in the center of the painting (contemplates.Blogspot.com). In this mode the picture contributes to the rhythm of action and violence. The red color is used violently to show the brutal event that is being produced and all the blood that spilled that day.

Although the Spaniards were surpassed in number that day we can say that the painting is an antecedent of expressionism for faces and romanticism for the exaltation of patriotism but in reality it is a denunciation of the violence of war (themes and commencers art.Blogspot.com).

In contrast, on May 3 it presents a disturbing image of anguish when Spanish men are aligned to be shot. The painting has a modern appearance, with its impressionist brushstrokes and its strong dependence on violence and emotion (McNese 124). The picture remembers the executions of more than forty men and women, in the hill of Prince Pío. The focal point of painting is a man who gasps and extends his arms with horror at his destiny. His gesture suggests that he faces death with challenge and despair. Isolated from the dark figures that surrounded him, the severe light of a flashlight placed on the ground before his executioners highlights his white shirt and yellow pants. His innocence is implicit in the brightness of his clothes, while his gesture and the wounded right palm remind us of Christ crucified. Next to him, his companions give different reactions to his desperate situation. On the left, a man protects his eyes from the sight of the horrible battery of dead people. The head of the figure in the foreground is full of bullets; His arms hug. In order to increase the dramatic effect, Goya has painted a gloomy landscape. The contour of the church and the monastic buildings in the distance place the scene somewhere on the outskirts of the city. The stage is vague because the executions occurred throughout the city;During that night, it was estimated that more than 400 Spaniards were shot (Carr-Gomm 122).

Goya uses dark colors in its picture but the range of blacks, death color predominates. The contours are outlined in black in some cases. Bodies and faces are deformed with an expressionist technique (Marauri.WordPress.com).

This painting will symbolize the new art of the early nineteenth century, born in a world where a change was required, where liberalism was intended to replace absolutism and where the Enlightenment was not going to be challenged by another political revolt but by a revolution formed aroundof feeling. The romantic rebellion would be called, and Goya would be one of its founders (McNese 125).

These two paintings are important for the history of Spain because they represent the patriotism of citizens in the fight against the French, but also the violence that seized Spain during the war.
